Should AI copy and paste responses be banned from political discussions here?

There's been a growing number of people copying and pasting swathes of AI content in response to posts here.

Although that might be a fun in some threads (I've done it a couple of times in the past), I personally think it's unacceptable when it comes to serious political discussion.

Interacting with a long list of bullet pointed, computer generated paragraphs strays far from what this board was set up to do, and it's also incredibly lazy (and often runs the risk of being wildly inaccurate too).

What's your opinion, urbanites?
Unequivocally, YES, they should be banned - ban 'em laddie, ban 'em allllllllllll.

The thing about Urban has always been the wide range of individual viewpoints, strongly held. Outsource post-writing to AIs, then that disappears. Like the bit in Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Buffy explains that when a vampire bites you, a demon takes up residence in your head, and you aren't you anymore.

AI - 'tis the devil's work, and no mistake.

It got a bit confused... :hmm:

Reminds me of a sleeve blank VHS' used to come in maybe Panasonics.

There seems to be a fairly basic misunderstanding of how AI works here. And I know its fucking scary.

But it's literally learning about Urban75 from every post on this thread... it will change its opinion. that's the scary bit. its crowdsourcing and machine learning.

anyway.... there's always these filters which universities etc use. do these boards have the ability to embed something like this in? although that's getting very police state.

Pretty sure most people have a reasonable understanding of how AI works, so to suggest their resistance to having its output copied and pasted all over this forum is down to their ignorance of the technology is a bit of an insult.

I really dont agree. There's a fair bit of misunderstanding about how it works (and not just here). It's going at a blistering speed. But anyway.

I think a distinction should be made between quoting something sourced from AI and just pretending your entire post is yours and not something lumped in from AI. I agree completely with you however that it's a nightmare to think of a forum just arguing with itself.

The title of the thread is:

The answer to which is yes.

We already get people cutting and pasting from newspaper articles without adding any comments. Don't see many other people complaining here bar the occasional mod post about that. Why should a worse situation be tolerated?

I see the moderation staff may be wavering on a decision to allow AI forums and posters here. It's too bad. This could've been a great leap forward.
So human hubris, pride and delusion will continue to reign here...
Have you considered fucking off? Your faecal vomit adds nothing to any thread, you dishonest toerag. You make shitstains look elegant.

Yes. If someone can't be bothered writing something themselves why should anyone bother to read it?

As said before to posters who linkbomb and run, I’m here to read people’s opinions. And preferably real people.

I already have Internet access so can get any AI content I need - which is none - elsewhere.
Yeah, the thing is people posting their own views and comments.

I'm not sure it's worth trying to create a new rule for AI specifically, I'd simply make it clear that c&p of swathes of text fall under the 'contentless posts'.
That means that if someone is posting AI content for a sensible reasons, i.e. to criticise it, evaluate it, etc it's fine but if it is repeated spam the poster gets a warning.
