I pretty much only wear sandals/ clogs or wellies, buy the size I think I am, and and my feet feel mostly comfortable.

My wellies are much too big but thats ok because you can wear double giant socks in them. For some reason i've never stopped to ponder why they are too big, when they're supposedly 5s the same as everything else. Maybe they designed them that way, to have the double giant socks in, as a kindness.

Well, the answer is that the shoe sizing system is a big mess in general.

Did anyone experience using a foot measuring machine in a shoe shop when they were kids? It might be just a 70s/80s thing or just the one shop we went to. Huge steel thing.

Yes they had them in Clarke’s. I can’t imagine it did much other than act as a gimmick to get people excited about going to their shops.
