I thought that they already had one of the highest levels of armed officers/access to firearms in the UK? Thanks to strong encouragement for officers to take firearms courses and a subtle redefinition of the regs to include the boots of police cars as "secure firearms storage" - They used to boast that you were never more than a couple of minutes away from an armed officer in urban areas and something like fifteen/twenty minutes in remote/rural places.
