Romantic weekend place in UK?

Cloo

Banana for scale
Ideally with about 2,5hrs drive of London.

Basically we don't have much in the way of holiday this year, haven't had any since August, not really getting any until this August (and that's mostly going to be camping) and last year gsv and I never got a weekend away just the two of us, as we have done in previous years.

If my parents can have the kids, we want to do a pre anniversary two nighter in the UK at the end of June, so wondering if there's any particular locations/hotels anyone would recommend.

I've heard good things about Rye, and we could go back to Whistable, which we had a day trip to last year, but would like to see sans kids. Doesn't have to be seaside, though.

Whitstable is a beauty.

I think my most romantic place is Shakespeare country, Stratford upon Avon. Lots of peaceful fields where you can lie and look at the sky or have sex in long grass. In Stratford, romance is never dead.

Whatever you do I'm sure it'll be ace.

If you want to be closer to home (home being London) , there are loads of places surrounding Maidstone that are wonderous, believe it or not!

Thanks, could look at a late deal there nearer the time. In fact, maybe we should just book the childcare and then wait for a last minute deal somewhere as I'm sure we'd have plenty of choice.

Don't get wistful about Whistable. Whitstable is much better I am sure. :) There are lots of great places in the UK. The only problem is the weather, especially in August - the monsoon season. :(

Bournemouth.

A little on the seedy side, I grant you :)

Oooh! Margate. Has it's own Tate.

Southwold is the bomb but on a busy day (any day from about April-October) it can be a bit like Hackney sicked up half it's middle class.

It's gorgeous and I absolutely love it there but it's too busy.

I echo about Southwold it is beautiful but can feel a bit too much second hand book shop and Cath Kidston. Got Adnam's Brewery though. And most definitely Bath.

In two and a half hours you could get to the Forest of Dean. Properly quiet, beautiful and very romantic. Closer to London, Rye is nice, but I'd be tempted to avoid the coast and go to rural West Sussex, kind of Midhurst way.

Covehithe just north of Southwold is a good nearby bet if you like a bit of peace and quiet, pigs and the fastest coastal erosion in Europe. South of Southwold you have Dunwich heath which is lovely and then you can walk south along the beach and see the big fenced off area where they are going put Sizewell C.

Somewhere like Dell Quay or Bosham in Chichester Harbour, which is a beautiful area 2hrs drive from Barnet  Seaside, nature, walks, pubs, B&Bs, beautiful cathedral / market town etc :)

St Albans even .....(some decent affordable hotels now - nice city centre with market , rather old church thing, loads of good pubs with good food and ale , historical architecture , county walks and 20 mins on the train from St Pancras..
