He was arguably the most absurd Bond, and the one who exemplified the somewhat misogynist, patriarchal 70's culture. Watching some of his interactions with the Bond girls in those films is a tad cringeworthy today. But then he was a product of his time, and I think he approached most of it with a very tongue-in-cheek attitude.
And I especially liked his attitude towards the physicality & stunts laden aspects of the films - I saw him interviewed once when he was saying how he was actually a bit of a wimp & would never dream of doing his own stunts. Made a change from all the "hardmen" of Hollywood who insist of doing as much dangerous stuff as possible, presumably to appease their fragile sense of masculinity. Moore had it right - cheesy bit of acting followed by sitting in his trailer with a nice G+T while the stunt guys do the messy stuff. That's how I'd have done it!
