RIP Wilko Johnson

Just saw him before xmas, he did an encore with Madness......got a massive applause.

Be sad to see him go.

:( How sad. Saw him play a solo set a couple of years ago and he was amazing. Such a great player and stage presence.

It was posted up on twitter earlier on today. Sad news. I really think that in later life his reputation has been massively enhanced by Julien Temple's Oil City Confidential which is, arguably, one of greatest music documentaries of all time.

Yep, i ageree. A brilliant curator, hilarious storyteller and someone i think lee and the others could be, and are, proud of.

Oh fuck :(

I think he's brilliant, absolute legend. He's always the centre of focus for me when I watch their old gigs, in fact I think everyone is probably looking at him. He always had the biggest stage presence. One of those people I just like to see!

Nearly choked on me own tongue when I spotted him in Game of Thrones as the silent executioner Ser Payne. He was perfect for the role with his eyes and height.

Terminal does not mean he is going to die though so I'll wish him strength instead.

I saw him back in the day with Dr Feelgood and was completely mesmerised by his stage performance.

He was the stage, the way he holds his guitar down to his facial expressions. He was the stage, everyone was focussed on him. Too young to have seen him back in the day but I have watched all the good quality videos on YT a dozen times.

Just seen this on fb, couldn't see another thread.

Sad news indeed.

WILKO JOHNSON – IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

I am very sad to announce that Wilko has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the pancreas. He has chosen not to receive any chemotherapy.

He is currently in good spirits, is not yet suffering any physical effects and can expect to enjoy at least another few months of reasonable health and activity.

He has just set off on a trip to Japan; on his return we plan to complete a new CD, make a short tour of France, then give a series of farewell gigs in the UK. There is also a live DVD in the pipeline, filmed on the last UK tour.

Wilko wishes to offer his sincere thanks for all the support he has had over his long career, from those who have worked with him to, above all, those devoted fans and admirers who have attended
his live gigs, bought his recordings and generally made his life such an extraordinarily full and eventful experience.

Thank you.

Robert Hoy

I just heard about this too. Very sad news.

I never saw Dr Feelgood live, but I think I saw Wilco play with Ian Dury once (I may be getting mixed up)

A great musician, character and stage presence. :(

Shame - I saw him solo about 20 years ago - manic gurning and machine-gunning the audience with his guitar. Have nicked plenty of good riffs off him as well. Hope he is in better health than the prognosis suggests (stranger things have happened..) :(
