A bit late with this, but it just came up in my feed. A committed socialist to the end, apparently.

Lewis was born at All Saints Maternity Hospital in Poplar, London, England. He worked as a bricklayer, electrician's mate and carpenter and also joined the Merchant Navy before turning to acting. He was persuaded to go to a performance by the Theatre Workshop, under their director Joan Littlewood. It was common, after these performances, to invite members of the audience to meet the cast. He was invited to an audition, landed the part, and left the sea to become a member of the company.

This reminds me of the time a few weeks ago at Dulwich Hamlet. A substitution for the opposition was announced over the Tannoy. His name was Butler.

"I hate you Butler" I wittily bellowed out as he came near. I think just one old bloke in the distance laughed while several younger fans nearby looked on, baffled.

Watched a couple of on the buses episodes over christmas and it really was fucking horrible. If anything blakey was the hero trying to rein in those two predatory misogynistic bullies.
