One of my favorite characters on TV as a kid. I loved on the buses and Blakey used to make me cry with laughter.

He was pretty good as 'Smiler' too in LOTSW

Not a bad innings @ 88 declared

I also thought he'd gone ages ago. So he was only in his mid forties in those 70s eps of On The Buses. He looked well old then.

yes - he was 10 years younger than reg varney ('stan butler')

mum-tat made stephen lewis' acquaintance briefly (he lived in blackheath at one time) and he came across as a nice enough bloke - he just always seemed to get given more or less the same miserable old git role...

While I do not wish the man dead, I have to say that all the characters on On The Buses have always made me feel quite sick.
In fact the whole show has always made me feel sick.

RIP

Seconded. I've tried to watch it in the past (wanted to see why it was so fondly remembered) and there were some very iffy "jokes" about women on the show.

"some" ? The whole thing is 100% iffy. Those disgustingly ugly old men chasing young girls. The constant degredation of Olive. Yuk.
Even at the time it made me feel sick - never mind trying to watch it again now.

Well, as I said, I've only seen it a couple of times and I couldn't work out why it's held in such high esteem. Hopefully, we'll not see the likes of it again.
