Beloved actor Frank Kelly has died aged 77

"FRANK KELLY, THE actor who played Father Jack in the comedy Father Ted, has died aged 77.

Kelly was best known for his portrayal of the elder priest on Craggy Island, but had a long and varied career.

Last October he revealed he was suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

In a tragic coincidence, today is the anniversary of the death of his Father Ted co-star Dermot Morgan."

Always felt a bit sorry that all that acting talent had to be largely reduced to single word utterances of feck! and drink! but we so loved him for it.

RIP Frank. As a properly trained actor in a cast of amateurs, he must've been a very good sport to play a character like Father Jack. He could steal a scene without a single line, just sat in the corner in his armchair twitching and grumbling.

A fine actor, who was slightly bemused at what he was being asked to do as Father Jack, but by God did he enter into the spirit of it.

Best exchange in all three series of FJ:

Jack (sober): Hey! You! What the hell's this?
Ted: It's a spoon, father.

In a series jammed-packed with jokes, Jack reigned supreme for the one-liners;

"Don't tell me I'm still on that fecking island!"

"Are those my feet?"
