RIP Chester Bennington (Linkin Park)

xsunnysuex

Life is a horizontal fall.
:(
Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington has died aged 41, LA County Coroner says.

TMZ magazine quoted police as saying Bennington hanged himself at a private home in Los Angeles county, California. His body was found on Thursday morning.

Bennington was said to be close to Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell, who took his own life in May.

Formed in 1996, Linkin Park has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and has two Grammy Awards.

I'm not usually blubby when musicians/celebs die, but I am now :(

New neighbours have just moved in; guess they're getting Hybrid Theory blasted through the walls a few times tmoz :(

Linkin Park were a big deal when I was teenager. Compared to the rest of the dreck that was heavy rock music at the time, they made some great records.

Bennington seemed like an interesting guy too, I remember an interview with him where he talked about trying to balance his drive to deal with depression and mental health stuff in his music without wallowing, exploiting or saying stuff that a million people had said before.

RIP

Gutted about this one, I was in my 20s when Hybrid Theory came out, it was a great album, have purchased all their albums since in fact including the latest stuff.

This has hit my sister more so, who is 10 years younger than me, and think it's the first 'celebrity hero' she's lost. She was always a bit ahead of the curve, probably due to our age difference, and probably why we've shared a few txt msgs this evening. Reminding me how she'd go to Junior school (as a 10 year old) in a Linkin Park hoodie, and that Hybrid Theory was the first CD she purchased with her own money! Keeps reminding me that I look like Chester (not that I see it myself) so it's a bit weird too.

Losing so many musicians to mental health issues, really wish they could find people to talk too, and not think this is the only way of escaping. There's going to be a lot of Linkin Park fans that associated with him so much, and will feel that his music helped them over the years to become better and stronger people. I can understand their desire to wish that they could have helped him.

While the whole nu-metal thing didn't really last that long in itself, they were truly the best of the bunch, and his voice is/was phenomenal and always will be.

Terrible news that anyone should take their life at 41. With a wife and six kids and an incredibly successful career to date it's the last thing I'd have expected.

Have to say their music wasn't really for me. Nor the whole rap metal thing that sprang out of America in the early 2000s, but nobody could deny its appeal to millions.

Safely onwards Chester.

Listening to Hybrid Theory this morning...

"My life my pride is broken"
"We live for today"
Great album
:(

Fuck :(

I remember going round to my friend's house to listen to Meteora when it came out, I was still in primary school at the time.

So sad...He was Godfather to Chris Cornell's son...poor child, so much death around him :(

I wasn't a fan of Linkin Park but I liked his stuff with Stone Temple Pilots.

RIP Chester X

If any one has not already done so, go and listen to some Linkin Park lyrics. I know they are full of angst but, given tragic circumstances, also quite profound.

Very moving statement from the band here:

Dear Chester,

Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened.

You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realized. In the past few days, we’ve seen an outpouring of love and support, both public and private, from around the world. Talinda and the family appreciate it, and want the world to know that you were the best husband, son, and father; the family will never be whole without you.

Talking with you about the years ahead together, your excitement was infectious. Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing. We’re trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal. After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place. You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human. You had the biggest heart, and managed to wear it on your sleeve.

Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable. While we don’t know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you. Thank you for that gift. We love you, and miss you so much.

Until we see you again,

LP

Ooo! I quite like that

Not the target demographic, obviously, but, to my ears, a sympathetic progression for a band having to deal with upheaval

And for me, interestingly, some of the FX used are not a million miles away from how my visual migraines present
