Reducing hours on UC

I'm hoping I can get some advice here without all the judgement I'd get elsewhere!

I'm currently working full time and above minimum wage. The job is really stressy and - you know - shit. At the same time, I'm also studying the Knowledge to become a cabbie. I'm doing alright so far and (although not certain) I'm really gunning to be done by the end of 2025. Although, the studying always takes a knock when work is extra stressful and/or I have to work late.

Due to stupendous private rent, I currently claim literally about £50 a month UC to help me cover it (originally it was more, but I got a pay increase at work).

To try to cut a long story short, I have an opportunity to go job share at work and reduce my hours to 18 hours a week. My income would still be above the UC earnings threshold, so in theory they shouldn't force me to look for more work. But my question is....am I likely to be sanctioned if I tell them I've voluntarily reduced my hours? Also....what happens if I just don't tell them? The amount of UC I get paid each month is calculated according to what HMRC report as my earnings....but is it likely to be flagged?

Any advice appreciated. If I can reduce my hours, I can be done quicker and then be earning more and paying more tax and NI!
