They won't suddenly turn poisonous in August. Cereal generally has a best before date not a use by date. Should be no noticeable difference and zero risk in eating them for a good few months after the date on the box.

i know that but i have limited storage space. to my shame, it did not occur to me to give to food banks. i shall suggest it to my employers

Yes, cornflake chicken strips are the business. I love them, and I never eat cornflakes as cereal.

Roll chicken goujons (or fish, they make good fishfingers too) in seasoned flour/egg/crushed cornflakes, then bake till crispy. Eat with chips and beans, unless you're some sort of mad food separatist who can't handle the sauce on the plate.
