R.I.P Herbert Lom - the last of the Ladykillers has died.

He had a great face. Top actor.

I (just) remember him from 'The Human Jungle' a television series about a psychiatrist. I have no idea if it was a good series or not. I think a lot of it went over my young head...

I just found a clip of the theme music. It's quite spooky hearing something from that far back in your memory....

According to imdb he was on screen for 67 yrs.

A staple of sunday afternoon childhood. Like Alf Molina is was a great all purpose villian that could come from any country.

Some of my favourite Lom;
Gambit-as a sharp business pandering as an eccentric to foil Michael Caine's swinging sixties jewell heist.

Northwest Frontier- rip roaring pro-imperialist yarn in which he plays a train passenger so dodgy, he is not only mixed race and a journalist but a Socialist and Muslim.

The Ladykillers- Ever ready to cut old ladies' throats.

He was great. I think it was only last week I was telling my mum that he was still alive. RIP, a good innings!

'all purrpose villain' indeed. he was a cypriot thug (?) in the ladykillers, a 'muslim' in NW frontier, french in pink panther etc. like mark strong who has played a geordie, an 'arab' and a gay cockney to name but a few!

A great actor ,my favourite was Hell Drivers which was packed with stars inc Stanley Baker,sean connery,patrick macghoan.R.I.P Herbert

Excellent film.
Even though initially I watched it by mistake as I thought it had Stanley Baxter in it (I was young at the time).

I remember that. Obviously from re-runs, since I was born a year after that clip is dated.

I remember him as a serious film actor from the early days and also the Human Jungle. He used to be in my film star books as well. I liked him a lot.

Since his death I have been watching a few pink panther clips on youtube.. it was so good.. I feel it is almost a crime that they remade it with Steve Martin. The original is so good.

Just got done watching Hell Drivers. McGoohans face at the end was quite a picture. Poor Gino, what a doomed sucker complete with classic death scene cliches.
