My Rega Planar 3 is 42 years old, still going but getting a bit creaky (like me). My Audiolab 8000A died three years ago, aged 25, so I replaced it with a 8300A which still has that 'Audiolab sound' only much, much better

This is my kitchen stereo.

The tuner I found in a house I moved into in the 1990s. I've carted it around with me ever since.

The amplifier I bought last year from ebay, because it was cheaper than a new one. They make a lovely pair. And most importantly - sound incredible. Useful for banging out tunes when hosting poker games. Or indeed when cooking dinner.

Buried under the recipe books is a bluetooth receiver so that I can play tunes from my phone through it.

Those McIntosh amps look mental. Cost a bomb too but are well worth it if you have the cash from what Ive heard.

I think I'm going to crack soon and buy a big silver vintage amp with lovely VU meters!
Have a look in the British heart foundation shop on Acre lane opposite Tescos. They often have some old amps, CD players and speakers etc, It's worth looking in a few times a week as they do turn stuff over quickly. May even be worth giving the staff your number as they'll call you if such a thing comes in. Will also ask about for you, i have plenty of horder mates that have bits and pieces of hifi stuff still knocking about.

If they've been maintained i think they're still one of the best amps about. Not fidgety and produse good sound. I had a pioneer one upto a year ago, was around 25 year old. I passed it on to my son who still uses it. They certainly don't have built in obsolescence like much of todays electrical kit does.

Two of the best investments i ever made were these. Got them secondhand and reconditioned, the pair cost me £700 and i've had them 15 year.

I miss having vinyl. Definitely going to get a deck when my life is more back together. I have a massive selection of Prince 12 inches from the 80s just begging to be played.

Following on from my newly energised love for vinyl, I decided to also buy a CD player to join my hi-fi rack, and have to say I'm rather pleased with my new (well, second or possibly third hand) purchase for £99.

Behold the Tascam CD-RW700 Professional - yes, professional! - CD Recorder & Player. And it does indeed have VU playback meters which is just the kind of superfluous fluff I want from a hi fi unit.
And see those things on the side? Yes, it's for rack mounting. For pros.

Anyway it sounds great for what must be a 23 year old player :)
