Payrise in public sector jobs?

Unfortunately in a lot of jobs, working late, doing extra, taking work home and working weekends and holidays as needed are part of the contract. I speak for teaching, but it's true of lots of jobs.

Yeah, it's not a good thing to start "working to rule", but the sad thing is that it's the most committed and conscientious people who end up taking up most of the slack...and then they get pissed off, burn out, and leave.

I guess it's not going to get better by itself :-(

yes our whole team is over working. three times this week I have found myself sending emails at 11.30 pm and discovered three colleagues also on theur email at that time.

my stress release mechanism is to take toil on a tue afternoon. I am currently lying in bed with cats

I've been doing this too, loads of emails flying around early morning's and late nights, even on the weekend, mainly as I'm attempting to coordinate a project with people in Aus and USA

I'm also on my bed with my cat :) but I've been working like that 1/2 the day, as we can work from home for a good chunk of the time, which helps a lot in this situation.

My pay has been frozen since the Labour freeze however many years back that was, over 3 I think.
No change of grade or rising up to massage this freeze.
Now a "new" contract has been introduced with less holidays and lower increases in holidays due to long service, longer full time week etc. We are being encouraged to voluntarily switch to this worse contract.
If I ever get a chance to move up a grade it will be under the condition that I have to accept this new contract.
This is not motivating me at all to apply for better positions when they come up.
Most new positions are given to inexperienced outsiders.
Out with the old and in with the new who won't complain about worse terms and conditions.
Isn't it lovely!

yes i used to go in a lot more but the place is so frenetic its counterproductive
i have to seriously manage one of my managers _tedious!
i did a 13 hour day on monday at home -no interruptions no travel really progressed my projects

We have a flexible working policy, open to everyone, that in practice is only used by managers when they have a hangover.

They've got a fight on their hands.
