painting a chipboard floor

nice one nice one

i'm okay for sanding and finishing, i'm curious what kind of stain they might have used. the table in the pic i posted is scaffolding.

okay, my googling tells me scaffold boards are soft wood, which affects the way it takes up a stain. i really like the contrast on the pic i posted. will do some more reading about and run a hundred tests on the underside...

just using this thread as notepad now :D if i do go ahead i like the look of pocket screws (and glue) for assembly - no need for dowels or clamps. anyone spot any flaws in this plan?

highly recommend the chalk paint. goes on a dream and really good coverage. it looked alarmingly bright out of the tin but it looks like it's drying darker and a touch more subdued. guess the test is how well it lasts.

in bad news there's a hole in the floor :D it's gonna need proper looking at so that's called a halt to proceedings for the moment. but the studio peeps are gonna fix it monday and paint the floor while they're at it, as a sorry for the inconvenience

ooh, also, i have legs on the way for the scaffold bench. getting them made to order in this style but in a clear finish so you can see the raw steel/welds :)

(can you tell i'm a bit excited?:D)

fair play to you, it's always good to experiment to get the finish you're looking for. Just in terms of wood coating i used for the floor i did it was:

liberon sealer, liberon hard wax oil, topped off with bona maga extra matt lacquer. In terms of wood stain i always found if you haven't got a lovely soothe surface it picks up the cuts and dents in the wood and you don't get that flowing grain, could end up looking like scar tissue.

chalk paint update update - the stuff is rubbish :D comes off if you look at it funny  so it looks like i'll end up having to varnish the fuck out of it anyway.

my boards were delivered earlier in the week, saw them today and it doesn't look like a mountain of work to get them close to the finish i'm after :) random orbital sander came yesterday and i've already stripped the carcass of a set of shelves, got a pile of stain samples coming next week. i used osmo oil on my pegboard shelves with much success so i'm hoping the rest of their range (filler/coloured wax finish) should sort me out. i've seen pics of the legs in their raw state and they look great. i don't envy the fella clear-coating them mind, he's not done it before and it turns out finishes are a massive minefield...
