One way or another, time is running out

I bloody wish all Olympic sports would get together and decide whether they're going to have clocks count down, or count up. It's well fucking confusing flicking onto a sport and trying to work out just where in the match we are.

2:36 - have we just started or is getting into squeaky bum time

I'll give you a clue. If you switch on and it says 2:36 and a second later its 2:35 then the clock is counting down, if it says 2:37 then its counting up. Problem solved and it only takes a second to work out.

That's all very well if you're aware there might be a problem.

But e.g. with the women's hockey, I think I turned on (or - more likely - got on a machine in the gym) when it was on about 2:37 in the second half, presumed it was working with 'conventional' (rugby / football) protocols, so didn't look again in the next 2:37.

So was more than a little surprised when the game suddenly ended.
