# On The CD Player Today (take 6)

Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues - like the first one it's OK but nothing startling
Glasvegas - Euphoric /// Heartbreak \\\ - gash, sounds like a much shitter version of their first album
Steve Earle - I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive - on first listen a bit disappointing, hoping it gets better

The lounge colossus that is Richard Cheese and Lounge Against The Machine, here performing an especially deranged jazz cover of Sir Mixalot's 'Baby Got Back':

Mmmmmm... NICE!

Beach house - Teen dream (my gf likes the Guinness ad and bought the album)
Boris with merzbow - Sun baked snow cave
Don Caballero - American don

Somebody's had too much to think....Open up another case of the punks
(got fond memories of hearing Peel play The White Stripes' cover, first time I'd heard them - need to track that down again.)

The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar

Like the Cocteau Twins had a really bad day and decided to do a punk set instead. Excellent. A damn fine first album.

Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock And Roll

What happens when the illegitimate offspring of the Fall and the Wombats get sub-edited by Half Man Half Biscuit. Absofuckinglutely superb.

Orb - Bicycles & Tricycles (Japan)

From A Distance (12" Z Mix Featuring The Corpral) - YUCK what rote
Hell's Kitchen :)

Abstractions (Submarium Mix) Magic

It's great isn't it?

Alela Diana - Alela Diana & Wild Devine - pretty good
Panda Bear - Tomboy - OK, but not really my cup of tea
Art Brut - Brilliant! Tragic! - Never really liked their stuff before (tho the cover of Vs Satan is great) but this one isn't bad
Mick Harvey - Sketches From The Book Of The Dead - was looking forward to this and I'm rather disappointed, it's not terrible but it's a bit bland.

Having a Prince-a-thon today.

Carter USM - A World Without Dave
Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will

The Naxos one? V. good!

It's RCA. I think Copland is a composer whose music is easy to screw up, but this is a quality orchestra with the man himself conducting, and it has all the texture and light and shade that are necessary to stop it drifting into either bombastic or over-sentimental. Not bad for a penny and postage.

Yesterday I listened to the Naxos recording of Borodin's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Symphonies. Which was equally brilliant, though not exactly summer music.
