Oink is no more

I love all the elitism these sites have when it comes to promoting the idea of sharing music freely. Not at all hypocritical :D

To be honest with you you're not missing much at the moment. What is having LOTS of teething troubles. It's been hacked twice in the last few days. Once with a nasty redirect to some malware and today a banner for the RIAA. It's having a lot of downtime whilst they try and expand and sort out the security issues.

I'll check on those invites when I can get on the site. I think I had something silly like 13 left last night.

I've been sent one - possibly by you - but it says the invite wasn't found, and I hear invites are disabled now :D

It's not so much elitism as self preservation. Oink got shut down because it got far too big, and no-one else wants to make the same mistake.

Yeah I sent you one. The site has been down the last couple of days. I'll send out a new one to you and others that PM'd me when they get the site back on line and open invitations again.

I'm sorted now ta - asked in IRC earlier when the site was working. Looks promising - when it works.

Wouldn't mind a what.cd invite if there are any going spare, think I've got a few I can exchange, stmusic and hdbits I used to have a few for torrentleech but they've disabled their invite system.

what.cd is full atm i'll let you know when they free some spaces up. And it's freeleech week yay! (download anything without adding to your dl ratio) :D

I'm going to be taking advantage of the free leech on what when I get home. I still have some invites left for what when they open up again. It's full at the mo.

I got invited to Waffles this afternoon and it looks like a good site, loads of stuff up there already. You earn invites there for each 5gb uploaded or downloaded. If I get some I'll post up on here.

Some Stats on how the Oink replacements are shaping up:

What: Users: 18,564, Torrents: 29,958
Waffles: Users: 10,222, Torrents: 40,491
STM: Users: 49,606, Torrents: 32,511

N1 Buoy was it you who invited me to what.cd? If so thanks alot :)

I think so...I got 7 Urban peeps in before they shut the door. So there should be plenty of invites about next time it's open.

The freeleech on what is maxing out my connection at the moment :) I think I'll leave waffles alone until it's finished.

im back on soulseek now demonoid is down and its still not working for me properly.. i think its something to do with port forwarding.. but my torrents are coming down fine.. want an invite to waffles i reckon that seems decent from what i hear

*joins the peoples asking for invites*

I cant find ANYTHING I want on any other places now that oink has gone.

If anybody has that Jeffrey Lewis covering Crass album I would be happy with just that!

No proper news story link, but acording the news reports on Radio 1 today, Oink passed over information to the Police on it's users.

And they say they will now be prosecuting downloaders themselves as well as the people that run the sites!

Looks like this could now be true!

There a couple of articles on Torrent Freak about people getting arrested by Cumberland Police. I thought copyright infingment was a civil matter, what are the police doing getting involved

It looks as they are after people who were upping pre-release material though.

Hang on, they arrested someone who uploaded one album only and only released him on bail?

Bail?

And yet not even the site's owner has been apparently charged.

Something doesn't sit right with me.

i suppose the cops will say they are acting as agents in this matter; copyright theft and all that being a crime (i assume) and the police stop crime (i assume).

who knows.

but here we are and now people are getting arrested!
