Oink is no more

oh get over yourself. If i want to comment i will do so, ffs. Who the fuck are you, the headmaster now?

I'm fully aare of the legalities. Doesn't mean i want web servers getting busted does it!

how can you have your pudding if you don't eat your peas?

No you aren't. There's no real precedent. If Mr Oink gets prosecuted, then there might be some. The legality of running a bittorrent tracker that carries copyrighted material is currently far from clear in the UK.

but no more or less secure.
Do you actually have anything to add? There's been no indication that security's been compromised - in fact quite the contrary so far.

anything to add in what respect? I asked if public was less or more or not than private trackers. Why should i have anything to add?

A public tracker isn't better, it's much worse - but then you seem to be preoccupied not with that, but with security and going round in circles.

Hmm. They've managed to get the domain back?

Quote from elsewhere:

I would like to thank piratebay for serving us these great waffles. :p (I saw the name server and the IP the domain pointed too changed to the piratebay servers :D)

i'd happily pay £5 (off the top of my head, but no more) to access a site as comprehensive as that if it was legitimate (and ideally money went to those who made it not their coke snorting managers and whatnot) per month. Let me have as much as i wnat per month for £5.

Won't happen though.

So long as kids want to win the x factor and little boyrs and girls want to be the next pop band the record industry will always have enough money to make.

i don't buy cd's anymore - simply because they are vastly overpriced (anything i want is at least £15!) and because the shops (which are shit at the best of times) never stock what i want.

edit: cos I don't mean to come across as busting your balls.
Why is it an inalienable right you possess to steal music?
I agree with your point about better business models particuarly for digital music and I believe that the
music industry has not grasped the concept fully.
Yet I also think that the whining from the Oink community is a bit pathetic and is akin to spoilt brats, so they have been forced to stop using one particular site for thieving music. So what, get over it. There's people without fuck all in the world. Not directed at anyone in particular just those hard done by Oink users who need to get a bit of perspective.

I didn't say I had a right to steal anything? Where does this come from?

I don't they go out until tomorrow.
Has anyone got a waffles email addy for sending proof of Oink membership?

From my little bit of research just now: Invites have been going out today to some folk. I sent proof via email, but I haven't recieved an invite. Apparently the waffles folk said on the IRC chat that they had over 3,500 emails to get through. They have been giving out invites on IRC, but I've never used that and don't intend to start now.

If anyone reading this has a waffles invite I'll happily accept one :) and I'll upload lots of Oinky goodness .

Just got on what.cd and I like it so far. There's loads more seeders than leechers though, so they have given everyone 10gb credit to play with, which is nice.

Yeah, I never seem to be able to get on with IRC...

Anyhoos, at the moment, STMusic seems to be the best site around - it's private, but has open sign-up at the moment, and since I first posted a link to them last week, they've bought a new server and re-written the site code to deal with a massive influx of Oinkfugees.

Their membership has doubled to 33,000 in a week and they've opened a new User Upload torrent section.

Since they launched it a few days ago, it's attracted 3,500 odd user uploads. Which I reckon is pretty good going from a cold start. Whilst this number is nothing compared to Oink, the site admins have been extremely accomodating and have gone out of their way to welcome people.

If the User Upload section keeps growing at the rate it is now it should have tens of thousands within a few weeks.

Could do with a re-design though. Awful ugly it is.
