The call for united european general strikes is being heeded in Spain, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus - is there sign of any UK actions yet?

I think there could be something of a united day of action at a later day It won,t be like 1926 because it won,t be a strike to the finish, more a day of action that could be repeated

it was considered at the TUC conference in September, and the vote went in favour of "looking into look into the practicalities of organising a general strike" - more here.

Opinion was divided, as there is a school of thought that it would provide a propaganda victory to the tories.

ETA - cock up on the quoting front

contain your excitement...
On November 14th there will be general strikes in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Malta. The ETUC [European Trade Union Confederation] is calling for solidarity action throughout Europe.

In London Coalition of Resistance is organising a protest at the European Commission.

Assemble 5pm - 5:30pm
European Commission
32 Smith Square, City of Westminster, SW1P 3EU
Tubes: St. James's Park / Westminister

What do you mean by it's being heeded?

Essentially, the various national confederations agreed to coordinate their day, and persuaded ETUC chief secretary John Monks to issue a statement encouraging action in the other 30 nations.

Belgium's radical union confederation is calling for a general strike of its members on the same day.

Accordoing to the email I got:
"Workers in Spain, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus and Malta
Will be marching and striking in unity against Austerity."
Whilst in Sheffield, we'll be ambling up for a demo outside the Town Hall at 4pm.

They've really got us where they want us don't they - not many can afford to strike to the finish these days. Makes you wonder if all the intensive benefits cuts are actually aimed at the still currently in work; using fear to prevent civil unrest, etc. :hmm:
