Bread was pretty dreadful, but could you write a sitcom like that now, with a family of largely sympathetic benefits claimants, as I remember it? That's a saddening thought.

I never got into Bread but The Liver Birds was watched in our house and apparently Carla Lane also had a hand in Bless This House, which I did watch, but that was because I fancied Sally.

I remember hating Butterflies and couldn't understand why she'd be contemplating an affair with that man (who seemed oily and annoying).
