Help Need help again please.

Life is a horizontal fall.
Sorry to keep posting for help. 😣
So I purchased this laptop on Amazon.
The laptop is running really well. Really happy with it.
But,. I have one problem that's driving me nuts. The search on the task bar isn't working. Neither is Cortana.
Not bothered about Cortana. But the search is a big problem for me.
It didn't even give me the option to type in it.
I've searched Google. But not found any fix for it. Help! 🙄
Don't wanna have to send it back.

I found some possible awnsers here but i'd be careful with some of these as messing with registry settings could really fuck the laptop up if done wrong.

I've had a look in the search setting in W10 and can't find anything that suggests you can turn off the search function - although it does let you change the parameters of how it looks for things.

Yeah, I've never dared use regedit ^^ - I'd end up buggering the machine if I tried that.

Curiously I never use the feature at home, but at work I routinely have to get to Windows Update, apps install and control panel on hundreds of different PCs...
On my own PCs I have shortcuts to everything I use ...

Yeah if you are nervous about using regedit then i would find someone that knows about computers or take it to a shop.

At the moment the problem for me is I am still trying to set everything up.
I've got a storage box with 1000s of things on it. I'm needing to find certain things. But can't search for them. Really pissing me off.

You can't find apps on the "ribbon" and put them into the toolbars ?
Or use search in "explorer" ?

Sorry I'm a bit thick where these things are concerned. So not sure what you mean about ribbon.
But no. No search is working. Not even on my usb storage box.

Sorry I'm probably no use here I've never used Win 10.

Can you right click on the taskbar along the bottom of the desktop screen and fund an option to add a search bar/window thingy?

Is it that you don't have a field to search or you do have it but it doesn't work?

Edit I see it's there but not working :/

Yes I do have it. It's there. But doesn't let me type anything in it.

I'm not actually sure if it's still technically a "ribbon" in W10 - or was actually called that in Windows 8...:hmm:

You can put apps shortcuts in various places - desktop, "start" and taskbar...

Sounds like you're able to remember a lot of things by name !
I am still rather annoyed that in later versions of Windows than 98 they removed the ability to have drop down folders on all four sides of the screen ... I only discovered the ability to do that by accident when my finger slipped and I accidentally flung a folder across the screen..

I also used to drop images on the desktop - even animated ones

Yes I can do that. But I have 1000s of things on my storage box.
I'm trying to find files and things I need for paint shop pro. Like plugins, fonts etc. But not able to search for anything.

Don’t know if it applies to windows but on a Mac it can take a while for things to be profiled/registered (not the right words but a bit brain dead) to make them available for searching.
This happens if you plug in a new drive.
At least it used to. Might have changed.

This seems to address your problem:

.
I'm guessing whoever created the "build image" for these laptops accidentally had it disabled and copied it to dozens or hundreds of machines. I have never witnessed it before...

Cheers.First option didn't work. Just brought up a lot of red gaff about why it didn't work.
Going to try the second option.
