NBN's Terrifyingly Tantalising Topical Tally :: Favourite HORROR/HALLOWE'EN Film

The only ones that have ever put the proper shit up me:

The Ring (Japanese)
The Descent
I am Legend

I’m surprised people rate 28 Days Later.

For a start the plot is exactly the same as Day of the Triffids.

Man wakes up in hospital having missed apocalyptic events. He heads out into a deserted London wondering wtf is going on. He meets the love interest and has a close escape from the infected/triffids that have overrun the place. They meet up with other survivors but realise that staying in London isn’t an option. They head for a safe place in the country. Get there – no good. Head off and find another safe place with fences and shit to keep them safe. Oh yeah, now they’ve picked up a kid. But men with guns threaten them. He lets the infected/triffids in to take care of the men with guns and they make their escape. Finish on note of hope.

And after they leave London the whole film turns to shit.

And it’s got that guy from The Day Today in it right at the beginning, which instantly broke any serious intent the director was trying to convey.

I could go on, but has anyone nominated The Cabinet of Dr Caligari yet?

If not, I’ll nominate that.

Walking Dead starts like that too

The Terminator
The Birds
A Nightmare on Elm St

Does Threads count? Good source for nightmares that one.

Night of the Hunter was actually the second film to come to mind but I'm not sure it counts.

I'm not really a huge horror fan but there are so many good ones out there, masterpieces of storytelling. Even the first Scream is great fun and I found the first ten minutes pretty scary at the time.

I'm gonna allow Terminator (I'll leave it to the voters to decide if it can be classed as horror), but Threads isn't presented as the TV equivalent of a movie.

I'll do a list of nominations thus far in the morning.

The Signalman is a BBC dramatisation of the Dickens ghost story with Denholm Elliot in the title role. I would nominate this if allowed?

I really like 28 Days Later despite not liking the horror genre. Apocalypse film, kind of like 12 Monkeys (but not as good) or (better than) Children of Men.

Unless someone who hasn't already exhausted their nominations opts for it, it's off the semi-final list...
