NBN's Terrifyingly Tantalising Topical Tally :: Favourite HORROR/HALLOWE'EN Film

Night of the Demon, classic.
I recall a remake but not as good.
Will there ever be another version of
M R James' Casting of the Runes?

I'm not a pure horror fan. Been frightened for real too many times. (I'd have considered Alien, The Wicker Man - Original obvs not the rubbish remake and Jaws if they weren't on the list of nominations already).

Is Aliens a horror as well as an action movie? Its better that Alien. If I can have it I will.
Shaun of the Dead. Comedy Horror but horror none the less and I think its great.
And, if we can have made for TV specials, does that include BBC Ghostwatch? I know people laugh at it now but Sarah Green getting dragged to Hell and Parkie being possessed was properly scary live. So much so that the Beeb almost pulled it and put a last minute caveat at the start.

I'd say Aliens is more of an Action/Scifi, but I'll allow it. Shaun of the Dead is fine. No to Ghostwatch though as it wasn't in the style of a movie/drama.

yeah I sort of considered The Thing to be a sci-fi film, but its bare horror really so I'll have that as second nom

if we can have that as horror I think my third will be:

Event Horizon

horror need not have any supernatural elements

I spose so. But films like that, not quite the Halloween vibe. Ghosties and whatnot.

What was that TV play, fire and brimstone? I nominate that as well. The one with what's his name. Can't be asked to Google on Phone. The daughter has been paralysed in a car accident, boyfriend turned up to dinner party.

Texas chainsaw massacre and psycho both lack supernatural elements. Wolf Creek definitely fits... Couldn't you come up with something better though? :D

It's good. Well I found it pretty horrific and intense as far as these films go. Mind you, same for Blair witch project. Which some people just didn't find at allscary.

Psycho is creepy, tebse but not scary or chilling . Never seen Texas chainsaw massacre.

Hmmm... I might consider a favourite Hitchcock poll in the future

EDIT: In fact, pls, someone, go ahead and beat me to it; it'd be nice to not put the work in :hmm: :p

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Slugs

Arachnophobia

The Blob

proper horror none of that oscar nominated shit

Hellraiser
From Dusk till Dawn
The Mist

Three from me. Hellraiser is an absolute masterpiece though, it is the epitome of horror. Great film.

Not just me then! Blair Witch is one of the few films that has genuinely frightened me. Guess it tapped into a big personal fear. Watched it again recently though and found it a bit shit. Shame really.

Sadly not nominating the film version of The Woman in Black simply because it didn't chill me to the bones like the stage version ever has!

The trick only works once. Blair Witch 2 despite being universally panned genuinely gave me the heebie jeebies but I hadn't seen BW1 at the time. When I did watch it I found it a massive yawnathon.

No, we're nominating horror movies and/or hallowe'en movies. No small amount of comedies or kids films featuring ghosts, zombies, witches and the like.
ah ok - what about Gremlins? it's hardly horror but it's set at Xmas rather than Halloween. And is ET a Halloween movie?

thinking on this - a horror film is not that easy to define - films with serial or spree killers can be horror films, but not necessarily all - some are thrillers, esp if they focus on the catching of the killer. Is Silence Of The Lambs a horror film?
