This is definitely true when it comes to the myriad of sub-genres, which are all about the narcissism of small difference. Is Deathcore really so different from Deathgrind that it's a separate genre? If you're deep into it, the answer is probably a furious yes.
But on the other hand, if you play Oompah on your tuba, it doesn't matter how you dress, where you play or what label puts out your music, you ain't Rockabilly.
