Music venue chat

I reckon it'd be a really stessful job....i dont know any venue owners/managers, but ive known a few pub landlords, and that sounds bad enough

I always got the impression it was difficult to get going, but if it gains popularity then its fairly plain sailing.

Got to Bar 512 last night - excellent little spot - unpretentious venue, nice door and bar staff, and a really good well up for it crowd, especially considering its in Dalston ;)
The sound was alright, but i think the Launch crew brought in their own...a tiny bit more bass wouldn't have gone amiss.
Ever so slightly too many people in there, but Ive had worse...
 thumbs up

Went to the Garage in Highbury... Never experienced such a sticky dance floor in all my days... Maybe its just a rock thing!

On another note a couple of times I've seen people queuing up into an anonymous door under a bridge to the south side of Blackfriars bridge... Next to what I think used to be the Ft building... It looked like it must be some kind of arches under a railway line thing.... Anyone know more?

Had exactly the same experience in there on Friday when I saw Bob Andy. We thought it was our shoes specifically - my Clarks Wallabees and my mate's Clarks desert boots. Like glue.

Hah jokers...i wonder when they last cleaned it... We ordered water and ice to try and clear our little dance patch but it made surprisingly little difference :D

New "16 acre" venue coming to Canada Water (south london)
:hmm:
Printworks
London’s huge new venue Printworks announces Nina Kraviz, Daphni, Dopplereffekt and more for 2017

What kind of music are all the djs mentioned? Are they going for a berlin-thing?

ETA:

"Picture a massive industrial warehouse set across an amazing site in London's Docklands, with a full day of the scene's biggest names providing the soundtrack. The event will take place in The Press Halls space at Printworks London. Housing the giant printing presses that once churned out the Metro and Evening Standard newspapers, the Press Halls are a fully soundproofed space, so expect proper sound levels.

Promising fully bespoke production, LWE and Broadwick Live will make the most of the Press Hall's rare potential, adding fully-fitted L'Acoustic and SB28 loudspeakers in the main room, designing an automated lighting truss that makes the most of the vast heights and installing over 100 lasers and spotlights to illuminate the dramatic industrial features. Room 2’s sound will be provided by Void. "

had a venue opened up next to my place last year (full disclosure- i know the guys who run the place, make of that what you will), New River Studios N4.

reasonably priced drinks until the draught runs out, nice staff, eclectic music policy and LOUD soundsystem. i'm in favour.

I spent midnight NYE there b4 going onto a warehouse party. Great vibe and varied music although we were only in the bar. Good beer. It was free and thankfully no security. It was a piece of joyous London rarely found now.

I've seen Sly and the family drone there previously in the 'gig' part and various other gigs. Always more than you get at most other venues.

Anyone been in the Horse & Groom Shoreditch?
Ive stood outside and thought it looke a bit hellish and id never go in , but theres something id like to go to now....

Sometimes I like to go sightseeing on Google Maps....'drive' down a little country road, or check out places I'll probably never visit. Yesterday was poking around mid western USA and found this ampitheatre in Denver called Red Rocks. Beautiful setting, flanked on either side by those slanted red rocks. They have some good bands booked in there too.
I wonder what the sound is like?

You can zoom round Pompeii on google maps

Peckham has got an excellent new music venue - Peckham Audio
20191031203044+-+Ph+CFaruolo.jpg

Its a bit bigger than it looks, surrounded by two tiers of "balconies" , means you can see the stage from pretty much everywhere.
Well designed, brand new , purposed built, good sound
The bar is reasonable too - cheaper than some local pubs

Its very much for live music, although they have a small dj booth

Bang opposite the Rye Lane station on Rye Lane, you cant miss it

That said like all the changes to Peckhams nightlife its painful and rye lane of a night brings a sneer to my face that isnt healthy.
But there arent many excellent live venues in south london and this is probably the best now, of this size, that Im aware of.

What has been your experience of live music at the Roundhouse? The couple of times I went there was a 4 sound system clash thing and it worked. A friend said he had a bad experience with a one stage format.
Pixies are playing in March and I'd like to see them one more time on a stage that size

Yeah, I agree. Sound in the Roundhouse is really good. But despite that it’s not a favourite venue for me. The floor is somehow too flat. I can’t really explain it but it just seems that wherever I stand I’m trying to look over the horizon. Upstairs the view is good but the vibe dies.

Cool!

I do the Google sightseeing thing too. Maybe we need a Google sightseeing thread.

The stickiest floor I’ve experienced recently was at Peckham Audio. It was so bad that it became a topic for chat.

And there are so many changes to floor level. Nearly went arse over a few times. Sound is alright but it isn’t well designed as a place to hang out. I like the booths at the back but they belong in a club (making out, taking drugs) not a gig space.

The old Roundhouse had a tiered floor, iirc.

Go there a lot. Sound is pretty good but agree with story that it would benefit from a raked floor. Beer used to be good but isn’t great now. I’ve booked a couple of tickets for the Pixies :)

Even in other venues with flat floors they’re not as flat as the Roundhouse.

This in incredibly convenient for me to get to. Shame nobody I am interested in is playing.
I do have one Dream Syndicate album though and next year the go team are on. £20 is kind of normal these days right?

Anyone got experiences to share about Dreamland in Margate? I imagine the main stage isnt very loud....better inside? Anyone?
