PC David Herald: Next stop Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police?

Police officer convicted of assaulting black man and 15-year-old boy

"A police officer has been convicted of assaulting two black males within two days, including kicking a 15-year-old boy when he was on the ground.
PC Declan Jones of West Midlands police denied the assaults but was convicted in a judgment delivered at Birmingham magistrates court on Monday.
The court found that Jones, 30, assaulted one man in Aston, Birmingham on 20 April last year, and the next day kicked and punched a 15-year-old boy in Newtown whom he wrongly suspected of having drugs.
The assaults came amid a police crackdown in the area, and the judge said the officer abused his power and may have been affected by “paranoia”....District judge Shamim Qureshi said the attack on the child came despite his adopting a “surrender pose” after Jones and another officer stopped him, and bent his fingers back.
The judge said: “The next stage of this incident is shown on camera when [the victim] stops and stands with his hands wide open in the surrender pose. PC Jones then punches him to the ground, orders him to roll over on to his stomach and then kicks him, in my view like taking a free kick in football...."

This is another example of police using violence here in Canada.

According to a report from Quebec's police watchdog (BEI), a 911 call was placed at 7:33 a.m. Sunday about "a confused and disoriented individual armed with a knife."

When paramedics and officers from Repentigny police arrived at the scene, they located Olivier, who was outside with another individual.

"The police tried to write the man a ticket, but he fled on foot," the BEI notes. "The subject allegedly had a knife in his possession and was threatening the officers."

The BEI states the officers tried "in vain" to reason with the man, even using pepper spray "without success."

"The police officers fired several shots at the man and hit him fatally," the report concludes.

The incident comes after a string of racial-profiling complaints against Repentigny police.

Earlier in July, The Quebec Human Rights Commission ruled that the City of Repentigny and two local police officers should pay $38,000 in damages to a former resident Leslie Blot for racial profiling.

In 2017, Blot was arrested in front of his house during a party. He said two police officers pulled up and questioned him because he was sitting in the passenger seat of his friend's car blowing up an inflatable children's toy. The officers said they questioned him because the car was not from Repentigny. It was registered in Laval, 30 minutes away.

Blot was arrested, handcuffed and given four tickets totalling over $700. One of the police officers erased Blot's recording of the intervention.

It was the fourth time the commission ruled against the city for racial profiling in a year.

Taking the race/colour out of the equation, I believe in changing some of the policing issues and including social workers.
I've seen several experiements that allowed social workers to ride along with the police. They were a success.

Philadelphia to pay $2M to Black woman beaten by officers, separated from toddler during unrest

Officers smashed Rickia Young's windows with batons when she unknowingly drove into a protest. The union later claimed on social media that officers rescued her "lost" toddler.

The city of Philadelphia will pay $2 million to a Black woman who was pulled from a car, beaten by officers and had her toddler used for social media fodder by the police union, officials said.

Nursing aide Rickia Young was headed home in the early morning hours of Oct. 27, 2020, when she unknowingly drove into a large protest over the police killing of Walter Wallace Jr.

She tried to make a three-point turn to get away from the tense scene when officers smashed out her windows with their batons, according to her attorneys.

Yeah, saw that. Revolting. Supposedly the police serve the public, when actually, when it is pared down, they only serve the state. There has to be some legal recourse, but you know, it's usually a suspension at best.

"“The team from the Metropolitan Police Federation have witnessed the body worn footage of this latest incident in question. We can say we will be robustly defending the actions of these officers and are supporting them at this time.

“These police officers acted incredibly professionally ...”

‘We have nothing to hide’: Police Federation calls for footage to be released of Black pensioner hospitalised after arrest

“How can it be right or fair for police officers to be put on trial by social media?’ chairman of Metropolitan Police Federation asks

Imagine seeing a picture of a guy bleeding from his head in hospital and your first thought is, people are going to criticise me as a result of this and that's the part that's unfair.

Because the bodycam footage will clearly show a 70 year old man assaulting brave police officers who, in defending themselves, accidentally injure this terrifying 70 year old man.
So, you know, the picture of the injured 70 year old man doesn't tell the full story.
Which isn't fair.

There, that's the kind of mental gymnastics you need, right?

"Mr Dixon, who weighs around 9 stone and is 5 foot 7, has had two heart attacks and two strokes."

Yeah, it would be terrifying to be assaulted by him.

Yeah in fact they already seem to have trotted out exactly this. Confident our officers will be vindicated. From which we can read, it's perfectly fine that this man sustained these injuries and our officers who are delighted to be held accountable have not even contemplated the prospect that they may have done something wrong.

Because when a member of the public assaults you - and let's bear in mind that pushing is assault - you can then employ whatever disproportionate amount of force you like.

That seems to be the thinking. Also, let's not kid ourselves, seems to be the thinking for a lot of people - any uppity black man (or woman at a vigil, peaceful protestor etc etc) not complying with instructions from police deserves what he gets.

Obey.

Tbh I’m pretty confident their officers will be ‘vindicated’ too. Years of history of them getting away with it to back this up.

Jean Charles de Menezes - there is a name I have not heard of for a while.

Kids bought us tickets, so Hubby and I went to a Roger Waters/Pink Floyd show.

Waters said he went to see Jean Charles de Menezes's mother.
He told the audience of what happened to the young man.

Then they played "Run like Hell"

Really lovely

Actually, rewatching that sketch - which is slightly uncomfortable given the inherent racism being parodied - makes me think that it's probably more documentary than parody. And shows how little has changed since it was made, presumably some time in the 1980s.

Not police brutality as such, but the filth being cunts anyway.
