Same here! An astonishingly beautiful actress playing a bald boy priest! Oh how i lusted after Tripitaka!
I remember looking forward to Monkey each week....Harold Lloyd used to be on just before it, on bbc2...
A great double bill to start of the weekend on a friday afternoon.

I'm sure Harold Lloyd was on 4. Well maybe later. Thank god they cut down Lloyd. I recently got sent the box set of all his films for review. They go on for hours with only about 2 minutes of him hanging off a clock.
Water Margin was a bit slow for the average kid but had ace huge battle scenes occasionally. Compared to Monkey which had pretty much the small melee fights week after week.
One episode of the WM had a chinese standoff which lasted like 2 days before someone broke and they started fighting. A concept most westerners wouldn't find interesting (hurry up and fight will you) but which I loved.
I loved Monkey but yeah, it was so formulaic. Half way through comes the
fight scene, with the same music every time..dum dum dum derder derder
dum dum dum derderderder.
