Microsoft Teams Help Arrgh.

ATOMIC SUPLEX

Member Since: 1985 Post Count: 3
I have a job interview over teams on Friday.
I have the link, a meeting ID and a passcode.

If I click on the link I get taken to the web page, but it says my (apple) internet explorer is not properly supported and I can only use audio. I will need to share video and share a desktop.

I have went to download the app as suggested, but I already have it on my computer (I assume from a previous job, though I don't remember).
It says I have to be a member of an organisation to use it.

Example: user@contoso.onmicrosoft.com or user@contoso.com
Microsoft Accounts or personal email addresses don't work here. Make sure that you enter your work or school account (e.g. user@contoso.com). If you want to reset a Microsoft Account password, click here.

What am I supposed to do exactly?
I'm not going to do very well in an interview if I can't even get teams working.

Borrow a Windows laptop? Teams is always a pain anyway, I can't believe MS would be very good at optimizing it for Apple.

Can you download and use chrome/safari instead? Download one, then right click the link you’ve been sent and click ‘open with’ whichever you download. Might also be worth deleting the app as well so it doesn’t default to that.

Teams is often a pain in the arse.

I don't have access to one. I do have a Chromebook, but I need to have access to BIG videos to play them on demand on the desktop. I can't do that on the Chromebook.

Can you use your phone instead? The teams app is available on iPhone and presumably Android.

Edit, sorry just saw above post.

#1 Dont panic ... your interview will not be judged on your ability to navigate Teams ..... if it was , half of us office workers wold not be here!
#2 sorry, dont know the solution to your problem, but (well before the date of your interview) find someone with Teams, invite them to a video call and have a trial run.
#3 my very first Teams call was an interview and I have everything set up and then on the call I discovered the laptop microphone didnt work .... very kindly they said they would do the next guy and return to me in 30 mins.... i borrowed my sons machine and it went very well ..... got the job !!

Teams works fine on Macs, I use it all the time.

It's an odd fault though, google is throwing up various possibilities but nothing concrete.

I use the web-based version of Teams in Firefox on macOS, and it works (most of the time). The video and screensharing seems to work (though admittedly I very rarely use those features).

I think there's separate personal and business versions of the Teams app. You probably need to get rid of the one you have and download the personal version.
The desktop app only works with business accounts as far as I am aware. The browser version will work with either. Options are to update your browser or install a different one like chrome and use it in the web app (this may not give you the ability to work with multiple screens ) or ask them to use zoom or Google meet which are both better anyway.

Hmm, mine is 15 too and Teams also claims it isn't supported, unlike the link I shared. Useless Microsoft

Install Chrome then. Should be fine.
It says it isn't supported, but it does load up and I have used it before. I don't know if that was on the app though. I do know it was a pain in the arse every week (when I did have to use it) and I can't really be fannying around during my interview.

I wonder if the host has to turn on the video?

What the fuck?
So, without doing ANYTHING. The teams app has stopped demanding I use a company address. It now says my teams is out of date and I CAN use my normal email address (which it now says I have previously used).
This all just jumped into life without me touching a thing. A page just opened by itself .

BTW . . the first thing I type in. . .

"You used an old password. To protect your account, choose a new password."

Teams installs itself and updates itself without you so it can get confusing

Start with a blank slate and uninstall it, do a reboot then follow the instructions from the start

It has now decided that I am registered and I can and could always use my personal email, even though it said I couldn't for the last hour. I now also have video until I actually enter the meeting, so I assume this is something that the host dictates. . . oh not wait. That's not true anymore. Now I have video even if I am waiting.

It says that I have an old version of teams and I need to download a new one . . . the link doesn't work.
It is also telling me to sign in, even though I had to sign in to get to this screen and it is showing my signed in name.

I can't see any way to share a desktop though.

You have to have the meeting open to share desktops or screens

OK well it does seem to be working, but my god, it seems really shonky. Keeps asking me different ways of logging in. This time it wants my meeting id and password. . but just takes me to the same place I was without it. It's still asking me to sign in, even though I already am (it's displaying my name).

Going back to Safari...does it have access to your camera> Google tells me it's Open Safari Settings. Navigate to Websites. Go to the Camera and Microphone tabs. Change access to Allow.

If you only have to sign in to Teams (or any Microsoft rubbish, it even happens on Xbox and Minecraft) twice then it's working relatively well.
