by arces i think they mean acres. - a plot of land and a mule seems to make more sense than 40 arces and a mule.Photos here: http://www.brixtonbuzz.com/2014/08/...-goes-through-the-centre-of-brixton-in-photos.
I'm afraid I don't understand what some of the banners are saying so I'll look them up later.

$777 trillion in reparations within 5 years demanded back in '99. That's over ten times the world's combined annual GDPs today! In fact, doesn't that make it technically impossible in that time frame?
Maybe that's part of the point; if direct reparations are unfeasible, more untied aid to the countries which were damaged by slavery (and are still damaged by the consequences of it), writing off debts, and far more in the way of affirmative action is asking very little indeed.<snip> $777 trillion in reparations within 5 years demanded back in '99. Too many corrupt governments in those countries and some are very rich already in terms of natural resources, plus there is growing scheme fatigue.Maybe that's part of the point; if direct reparations are unfeasible, more untied aid to the countries which were damaged by slavery (and are still damaged by the consequences of it), writing off debts, and far more in the way of affirmative action is asking very little indeed.
Regarding 40 acres and a mule (post #10) - I recall my Grandad constantly bringing up the three acres of land and a cow he and his fellow conscripts were promised in return for fighting in the First Word War.
not sure i'd go on a march called by the Hon Prophet Jah B, i'd want to know who appointed them Honourable Prophet Jah and what happend to Hon Prophet Jah A first.
The other thing in the case of this country was that when slavery was abolished slave owners were compensated for the loss of the slaves. As slaves were considered property.
This made many families very rich.
(Unlike USA. After the civil war the slaves were freed with no compensation to owners.)
Slaves were never compensated for the unpaid work they did. Nor for the suffering they endured.
Carribbean countries never were really free after slavery ended. They were still colonies.
