London Anarchist Bookfair 2015: predictions/dramas/confrontations...

Haven't been for a couple of years. Spent three hours there early afternoon. Found two of the three books I was interested in (the other apparently hasn't crossed the Atlantic yet) and a few others. One I first saw as a handwritten translation thirty years ago, finally in print. So much for my resolve not to enlarge the book mountain.

Had a chat with some people I hadn't seen in a long time, discussed an idea with one and was given a useful tip by another. Didn't run into anyone I'd prefer to avoid, but in any case one great advantage of the aging process is that I no longer look the way I used to and I'm pretty much anonymous. Wasn't very interested in any of the meetings listed so I boogied off home.

Crowded ? Not by comparison to others I can recall when I was there but I guess it got busier later on.

No psychodrama ? Yeah not noticeably. I'm sure there was all kinds of quiet seething under the surface but I wasn't looking for it and it didn't manifest.

Perfectly pleasant way of spending an afternoon.

was it any good then? its on page 2 of the uk politics thread on the biggest baby eating site in the uk.

i just limit myself to one book a year. after 25 years i've got most of the classic stuff and ak send me a copy of everything they put out.

some was on my wish list. benedict anderson - under 3 flags, patricia hill collins, the media versus the black panthers, and a copy of eric williams capitalism and slavery. rest is mostly about media representation and a mix of feminist stuff. inc some UK black feminism, harder to find than US stuff. plus the Kate Sharpley library people there had a load of magazines and books and pamphlets. so i got a load as soon as they turned up and then went back later with my last tenner.

most of my personal library is either mainstream academic or trot stuff (cheap at auction a few years ago) and the local women's libnrary/archive is in transit atm. so im still gathering. and still need to.

half killed my back getting it all back here.

I spent most of the day socialising in battle cruisers surrounding the general vicinity with various people. The Wetherspoons situation was pretty dire. Then went to some squat party. Old Street way I think although my memory stopped working before that point.
