Left pickled herring jars out for a couple of days, will I die ?

I wouldn't even bat an eyelid at eating something like that - and it's only a BBE date not a USE by date - come back in a year or so and ask then and I'll give you the same advice for the same pickled herring in the same tub

Use your nose - if it doesn't smell off then eat it

And even if it does smell off - exactly how badly off does it smell - like, is there fur growing on it or did one of the herring move when exposed to light, they'd probably best not be eaten

I have some pickled herring in a tub with a best before date of 02/04/2017. To eat or not eat? It's been in the fridge since I got it if that makes any difference.

I would. In fact you've just reminded me I've got some. I'm not even going to check the date when I open them.

It may have a BBE date on it but it may also have first been opened three years ago and say "once opened, use within three days" on the side.
