brixtonblade the competition schedule is pictured on the FB page, beginning here. https://www.facebook.com/lambethcou...3135174043310/949937491696404/?type=3&theater
In photos so can't copy and paste. Those photos include details for competition entry by post.

The food section is (own recipe unless otherwise stated) a jar of jam, a jar of chutney, 3 cheese scones, 3 iced biscuits (judged solely on decoration, no need to make your own biscuits). There's also a boiled fruit cake, made according to the recipe provided.

The main entry form is here https://eventlambeth.wufoo.eu/forms/lambeth-country-show-2015-flower-zone-entry-form/

Scarecrow and recycled garden form here https://eventlambeth.wufoo.eu/forms/scarecrow-recycled-garden-competition-entry-form/

Thanks very much.

Not super easy for kids but will see what we can do - should be able to manage the drawings at least. Can probably put a smiley face on a digestive too.

My Mum lives in Lincolnshire and their shows are heavier on crafts (and tractors and animals) and lighter on music and massive booze than ours and they have kids only cooking competitions which are good fun.

Good to see the show is supporting Trussell Trust - dont know if thats new but dont remember seeing it before.

snowy_again said that the man from Aswad has been prosecuted for DV but I'm not sure what that is, and google doesn't give any clues.
Domestic Violence - it generally helps if you quote the post you're asking about as it adds context. :)

There was someone else posted before I got the chance to post. If I had been the next poster, it would have made sense.

Anyway, 'Domestic Violence' is a bit to sanitised for my liking never mind 'DV'. Hitting, abusing, torturing your wife, partner, husband. Make their life hell and it's only worth two letters.

I used to know a guy who was in the cops but left, and he could discuss such horrific acts with a level of emotional detachment it always worried be. Like DV.

snowy_again are you a cop or a solicitor or a&e nurse or something?

Nope, none of those things; but worked in policy development and ran grant funding programmes for prevention, intervention and support work across the UK, along with working in the rights based inclusion world. I had no intention of belittling the importance of the issue; but have probably been institutionalised to naturally type the acronym without remembering that others might not understand. Apologies.

It's a pretty common acronym. I don't work in any of those fields but it's what I have often heard it called.

Really? I've never heard it. It's fairly grim. What context is it ordinarily used in? Legal or describing the act in conversation?

I'd use it in conversation. I'd talk about domestic violence rather than the details of what s/he did to him/her, which feels a bit prurient. And I've seen it in loads of articles.

Back to part of the thread's main subject - is anyone apart from brixtonblade's young visitors and me thinking of entering any of the competitions this year?

Before you repeat that reduction to an acronym trivialises it, would you say the same of MS or AIDS?
Sorry, I was pissed up and posting. I didn't mean to accuse anyone of trivialising domestic violence. I had never been aware of the abbreviation before and didn't know what it meant and then kept on talking shit once it was pointed out to me.

Apologies to all.

I'm not comfortable with an entry form on which first & last name, email, phone number, and address are all compulsory, so I'll have to print off the pdf and send that in, instead of applying online.

BTW you can enter at the last minute, but it's 50p an entry on the day - show up in the Flower Zone and ask nicely (it's at the organiser's discretion).

How can you enter a competition without giving them you name and contact details? Does the pdf allow you to give less info? I can't read the pdf on my phone for some reason, so maybe the answer to my question is on there?

Call me old fashioned, but nobody ought to need all of my contact details (name+email+phone number+address). I'm okay with full name plus one of the others, but no more than that.

The pdf doesn't mark every contact detail option as compulsory, but the online form does.

Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence. Never attribute to malice what can be explainedby stupidity.

I'm not attributing anything - nor do I trust Lambeth with more of my details than they absolutely need.

Wouldn't Lambeth already have all of those details from lots of other sources (council tax, voting register etc)? I assumed the entry form details went to a third party

Not all of them in the same place, and certainly not my mobile phone number.

Never assume anything where Lambeth is concerned.
