Who said this first and in what context I've got the vauge recollection that it is Simon De Montfort although I'm probably wrong.

Nah.. It's 'Kill them all- God will know his own', and I believe it was said by Arnaud thingy at the seige of Beziers, just before De Montford took over the Albigenesian Crusade.
