Kennington park - photos, history, chat

I've just spent far too long compiling this piece on Kennington Park, an area rich in history and one the UKs first cricket grounds.

It's not my favourite south London park (that's got to be Brockwell Park) but I love the history contained there.

The history of Kennington Park, Lambeth: cricket, protest, model houses, tragedy, Bob Marley and spliffs

Thanks editor great article.

I'm pretty sure there was more than one jayday march from Kennington Park, several in fact - I remember being on one with you and Rollem and Relahni but it was later than 1994 - maybe one in 97 and another a few years later?

Also I've been thinking about St Agnes Place - the new houses are pretty much finished now (£million+ "luxury parkside apartments"), a mere 10 years after the original terraces were knocked down and 47 years since they were originally condemned. No one can blame Lambeth for being too hasty

Help us to improve facilities in Kennington Park for young people

Hello,
We've launched our consultation for a new recreation area in Kennington Park and we want your views on our proposals. We want to create a space in this area of the park for young people to socialise and take part in recreational activities. The park already offers sports facilities such as a football court and outdoor gym, so we want this space to be used for group activities such as Tai Chi.
Our proposals also include updating the current sports equipment, such as the table tennis table and basket ball hoop, and creating more seating areas and places to gather and socialise. We are working with the Friends of Kennington Park on the improvement ideas.
We want to hear from park users or people interested in helping us to improve the park.

Have your say

To have your say, take our short survey on the Lambeth website.
The consultation runs from 21 August to 10 September 2023.

Get in contact

If you have any questions please email parks@lambeth.gov.uk.
We look forward to receiving your responses.

Thank you,
The Lambeth Parks Team
