John Hughes has died

I think his movies captured the essence on what it was like growing up in the 80s.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is one of my favs.

I feel a tribute showing of Weird Science coming on.

Yes.

*goes to join the other 500,000 people probably torrenting Weird Science and Ferris Bueller's right now*

Ferris Bueller and Breakfast Club were fantastic 80s movies. I wanted to be Ferris Bueller. :(

Yeah, I can still remember the times and places of going to see all of these '80s films at the flicks at the time. Seems a lifetime ago. :(

You can still remember what time of day you went to see Ferris Bueller's Day off at, at which cinema?

Funnily enough yeah, because of my burd at the time.

It was Enfield Odeon, a Thursday in '85 I believe. :D

Breakfast Club was at Odeon Leicester Square.

Weird Science or Ferris Bueller's a proper hard choice.

I do love the scene with the mutants at the house party. As they leave, one of them sidles up and goes "Can we keep this... a secret... I wouldn't want to lose my teaching job..."

:D

My life was just like that in the 80s - I had a nightmare with transportation :D

'I asked for a car and got a computer. How's that for being born under a bad sign.'

and later...

'Rooney will never believe Sloane's parents drive that piece of shit'

'It's not a piece of shit'

'It is a piece of shit, but be happy. I don't even have a piece of shit, I just have to be envious of yours!'

Economics Teacher: In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.

:D

Sloane: The city looks so peaceful from up here.
Ferris: Anything is peaceful from one thousand, three hundred and fifty-three feet.
Cameron: I think I see my dad.

Grace: Oh, he's very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.

Economics Teacher: Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
Simone: Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
Economics Teacher: Thank you, Simone
Simone: No problem whatsoever.

I suppose looking back I would have watched Pretty in Pink and Breakfast Club the most, have a liking for Weird Science, if for no other reasons than the teenage stirrings driven by a certain miss LeBrock.

Ferris: Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people.

:D

'This is a 1965 Ferrari California GT. There are only 25 in the world. My father spent 10 years restoring this one. It is his love, it is his passion-'

'It is his fault he did not lock the garage'

'You don't understand Ferris. He loves this car more than his family'

'A man with his priorities so far out of whack doesn't deserve such a fine autombile'
