Jeremy Hardy died

The Linda Smith thread was bumped coincidentally. For me they were two sides of the same coin. Jeremy Hardy was the male Linda Smith. Fuck. I bet she couldn't sing either.

Heard JH speaking at a stop the war thing. He spoke very well as I remember. He was just someone about whom there was nothing wrong, aside perhaps from his singing. :(

Jeremy Hardy was spectacularly bad at singing. I wonder if he enjoyed listening to music very much ... and if so, what sort ...

My mum was a proficient amateur lieder / light opera singer and I never encountered her listening to music.

I can sing in tune, but not usefully and only ever with the volume turned up and I alternate between wishing I had musical talent and being glad I don't so there's more mystery left in it.

I’m unsure whether “tone deafness” exists in the generally understood manner.
It's a very rare condition. Most people who are labelled "tone deaf" are nothing of the sort.

JH talks about his singing with Stuart Goldsmith in his interview on the Comedian's Comedian podcast - well worth a listen. Somewhere on www.comedianscomedian.com/podcasts
