Is my book worth money? How do I sell it?

Favelado

J'adore South Shore
About 3 years ago, I bought a book called 'Do not Give Way to Evil - Photographs of the South Bronx 1979-1987'. It cost me about 30 euros I think.

It's out of print now, and Amazon is quoting it as going for 800 US dollars second-hand.

I could really use the money BUT

Does that Amazon price actually mean anything?

How do I sell the book?

eBay with a reserve? Or if there is an antiquarian bookseller near you take it in and ask them. The one in my town doesn’t buy rare books from people, they sell them for you on commission ( apparently, I don’t think I have any rate books).

you'd know if you had a rate book, they're fucking big and heavy

Another major factor is condition. Only the most perfect will fetch good money. Any bends, yellowing, tears, etc will dramatically reduce the value.

Valuable books do not often realise their value if you need cash in a hurry. If there's a copy for sale on Abe Books for 170 quid, then it's very unlikely you'll get more than that, and likely you'll get substantially less. I wouldn't bother.

That's good advice. It's a great book anyway. I'll scan and post the pics on here one day. A treat for NYC fans.
