Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

You see something akin to this amongst the more cunty UK police - a sense that they aren't just above the law, but above all of the "rules" of civilised behaviour and social decency, too.
Aye, even down to the petty things. I have to share part of my workspace with PCSOs and some real cops and they steal my milk, butter and toiletries. Have done some disgusting things to their towels and their coffee though.

And that his fellow fucking filth don't pull him up on it...
It just goes to show that the uniform "Just following orders"enables some sort of dehumanisation complex to take place in the mind of these people. I think that's one of the most shocking things I've seen in this whole shocking debacle. America is so fucked up.

Far-Right Extremists Are Hoping to Turn the George Floyd Protests Into a New Civil War - VICE

It seems there is quite a lot pointing to far right militia types stirring stuff up here, pushing an accelerationist agenda.

A lot of stuff chronicled in this Twitter account pointing in that direction:

This is really bad.

Is the United States on the Brink of Another Civil War?

And not forgetting the cutting-edge, finger on the pulse meanderings of Loyalism's religious leaders...

This is NOT a parody. It's a 'real' Pastor, enlightening his flock. He compares BLM demonstrators to the "rabble-rousing" Catholics of the 60's Civil Rights movement in the north of Ireland who created strife across his 'great wee country' and precipitated the Troubles. Bright lad.

"RED WHITE AND BLUE, FREEDOM DEPENDS ON YOU

Racism is totally wrong and it should not be tolerated in any part of the United Kingdom . A lot of people from different races accept our country and our way of life and play a contributing role in this country and they should be accepted without any hate towards them . But To those that wish to change our country, it’s heritage and it’s laws for their own warped agenda and to those who burn our national flag and vandalise the statue of Churchill, they shouldn’t be here and should be sent away in a boat now . "

What on earth is going on in Seattle?

Edit: Amazon’s HQ is in Seattle and fwiu, all global delivery routes are planned there. Imagine if protestors occupy Bezos master command HQ and bring his nerve centre to a halt - it would cause global disruption to Amazon.

In many ways, the past couple of weeks have been exactly what the National Rifle Association has for years warned its members about: A mass mobilization of militarized police and unknown federal agents in cities across the country to shut down largely peaceful mass demonstrations of people exercising their constitutional rights—and doing so with force. In Washington, DC, for example, the President of the United States had law enforcement fire tear gas and rubber bullets at peaceful protesters for a photo op. In Buffalo, police in riot gear shoved an unarmed 75-year-old man to the ground, sending him to the hospital bleeding from the ears. In Minneapolis, where the protests started after a white police officer killed 46-year-old George Floyd on May 25, there have too many instances to count of police violently attacking peaceful protesters—and slashing people’s tires.

Surely these actions by law enforcement officers are what NRA head Wayne LaPierre warned about when he wrote in a 1995 fundraising letter that a recently signed assault weapons ban would give “jack-booted government thugs more power to take away our constitutional rights, break in our doors, destroy our property, and even injure or kill us,” right? After all, that was the NRA’s biggest fear during the Obama administration, when the group turned the former president into a liberal bogeyman, incessantly fundraising on the notion that his administration would ban all firearms. And even before that, the group capitalized off of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, making misleading claims that the New Orleans mayor had declared martial law and that police were disarming law-abiding gun owners to help crack down on looters. So surely the nation’s oldest gun rights organization, which has a sordid history of stoking fear among its base that Big Government is going to come and take away rights, would have a lot to say about these current instances of police crackdowns on peaceful protesters, right?

The US gun lobby has been exposed by its silence.

Meanwhile our local councillor comes out with... "the silent majority of decent, law-abiding, hard-working, tax-payers find the 'Black Lives Matter' slogan grating."

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned on here but Trump has just had a roundtable meeting with heads of law enforcement.

Didn’t watch it all as they were just introducing themselves to the discussion for the media but there was mention of ‘reforms’ - so something positive may come out of this meeting.

These the sort of 'reforms' you were thinking of?

or were you just pushing trump PR uncritically as per normal?

Fucking hell. Still promoting right wing sites?

She's a politician, mind. The thing that gets called 'virtue signalling' is pretty much a politician's stock in trade. So in that, she will be mindful of the people who voted for her, more of whom are black than white, and a large majority of whom did not vote for Trump.
Against this, it should be remembered that DC is STILL a Southern city, and therefore has an awful lot of white voters who are most definitely not fans of BLM

All this promise of a 'turning point'...will it amount to anything? If I was a black American I'd have no faith in white democrats to improve my situation. What did 8 years of Obama achieve? The guys in this video are spouting heresey, and white people are getting sacked for liking them, but are they on the money?

100% NOT on the money. Trump stooges talking rubbish

Yeah the far/alt right accelerationist stuff has massively grown the last few years.

Who'd have thought Hawaiian shirts would be symbols of an anti-State far right civil war movement?!

Boggles the mind. Thought it was a joke at first... I blame David Mitchell

So what about Hawaiian shirts? They're fun, they're crazy, they're slightly anarchic (within blandly uninventive parameters) and, like pineapple on a pizza, they provide the sort of meaningless nod to multiculturalism that helps less committed racists salve their lacerated consciences.

Me want cookie: the idiot's guide to being a fun-loving modern fascist | David Mitchell

Love the idea of Bezos in his volcano lair personally deciding whether or not Mrs Thompson in Daventry gets the incontenence pads she ordered.
