Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

Forgive me for the Mail link but this is something pretty special

Big yikes: Several influencers are sharing photos of themselves in blackface in a severely misguided attempt to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement

Caught: Instagram user Saint Hoax captured screengrabs of eight particularly egregious examples

"Influencers are slammed for posing in BLACKFACE in a horribly misguided effort to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement"

How independent investigations into the deaths of citizens at the hands of the state's armed agents work:

  • National Guard &/or Louisville Metro PD ‘return’ fire towards protesters/people in a BBQ shop queue
  • Restauranteur dies
  • Kentucky State Police will investigate
  • Triple exonerations all round!
Sit down a second - I know this will be a big shock to you:

Authorities say the shot that killed a black man who owned a barbecue stand in Louisville, Ky. amid George Floyd protests came from a member of the National Guard.

That Autonomous Zone in Seattle looks whiter and whiter very time I see a new photo of it. Not quite sure what it's supposed to be achieving.

It's a pretty white city. The majority of speakers and organizers were black when I was there, for whatever that's worth, and many of them have actively and specifically asked for whites to come out because the thought is that the whiter the crowd is the lower the chance of police violence. As for achievements, I'd say shutting down a precinct sends a strong message to the police and city and makes them more likely to implement some of the reforms that have been demanded of them. There's specific demands being made, many of which are within the power of the city council and SPD to implement, in contrast with Occupy which was often using local protests to demand federal action that nobody in the city really had the power to change on their own. The police have the options of doing nothing and waiting for who knows how long while the president makes fun of them on Twitter, coming back in massive force and having a serious riot on their hands, or negotiating and making some offers. It seems like a decent way to put pressure on them compared to other forms of protest I've seen.

Starbucks, eh?

Cunts of course.

Sadly I expect their current clientele won't be boycotting because of this.

Would like to think that anyone with a decent bone in their body is already bodycotting the tax dodging cunt business.

Ive been following the BLM UK demos thread. But not this one.

See Defunding the police has come up in US with occupation in Seattle.

Watched this a few nights ago. Interview with Vitale who has written a book supporting defunding the police.

His book is free to download on Verso. Watched the interview but have not read the book yet.

Written before these protests its now topical.

He is saying that policing is recent invention. It was brought in to police the new working class who flocked to towns in early days of industrial revolution, In USA also to police the black slave who worked in towns in the south and to help subjugate colonised people. Both US and UK brought it in.

So from its inception policing was about social control of Black people, people in colonies and the new working class.

This developed over the years but this is it reason for being.

He knows more about the US than here.

In US he argues that policing is where the Neo Liberals and social conservatives found common ground. The Neo Liberals didnt want to blame social ill on the market , the social conservatives believed that individuals were responsible for crime/ anti social behaviour.

This came together in the "Broken Windows" policing ( was imported here). Instead of inequality causing more crime its was low level anti social behaviour that if ignored led to more serious crime. So standing on its head idea that reforms like redistribution of wealth would cut crime ( as people would not need to steal to survive) to individualising it to working class /poor communities need to be controlled more.

He says the claims for success of this strategy dont hold up.

He is critical of liberal reforms of policing. The if only police get better training , get more Black officers and have community meetings.

He says a lot of this was done under Obama and in local States/Cities. It does not work. Having more Black officers makes no difference. They are part of a repressive organisation whose reason for being is social control.

His view iis that the Liberal reformist view of policing does not want to acknowledge the origins and history of this recent invention. Which is social control of the working class and Black people.

So what he says is "defund" the Police. As is being said in Seattle- cut the police budget by half, turn the police station into community centre and invest the money from police budget into the poor communites.

So in summary:

Policing is about social control and repression. That is what it was set up to do

Liberal Reforms make no difference.

The police/ prison budget should be cut and the money put into poor communites.

Beyond that the social ills that cause crime woud start to be dealt with real redistribution of wealth, decent secure housing for all and decent secure work for all.

Plus decriminalising drugs.

What a fucking smug piece of shit. You can see it on her piggy little face, she just loves being a total garbage human being. Well deserving of a proper slap.

The guy recording has a hell of a lot more patience than I would have in a similar situation.

Again, she reminds me of someone I used to work with. Not so much smug, but when called out on their bigotry, they would say over and over "I don't care". In an increasingly silly/childish way. In their case, it was like a nervous reaction. They knew they were being an arse.

Similar things certainly do happen in Canada - though unlike that charmer in California, the offenders don't tend to boast about the government being on their side. She's apparently got form for this kind of thing:

Torrance police have identified this "Karen" as 56-year-old Lena Hernandez from Long Beach. They say she's been involved in at least 3 racial incidents in which criminal reports were taken.

During one incident this past October, cops say Hernandez allegedly harassed a custodian and physically assaulted a Good Samaritan.

An old lady with a walking aid:

...Nicole said Friday that Loughner uses a walker and climbed the stairs from the street level on Thursday, where demonstrators were gathering, to the elevated capitol lawn and wrote on the base of Gordon’s statue in yellow chalk. Nicole said Loughner wrote “Tear Down,” part of the protest’s slogan of “Tear Down Gordon” and that about 10 officers then came out of the capitol to arrest her. Video on WXIA-TV showed the words.

“Dude, it’s chalk,” Nicole said. “Take a wet rag and wipe it off. She’s in a walker. Surely there’s better things to do with our resources. Per usual, the police response was 10 times more than what it needed to be.”...
