Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

Perhaps, but there's more bollocks flying around about this subject than any I can remember which is annoying, especially when it's reproduced here. It brings into question the credibility of everything else and the first thing you now have to do with anything that gets posted is fact check it.

Normally meticulous posters are sticking up all sorts of shit.

I think Trump is so hated, some people are getting a little carried away with posting anything that reflects badly on him.

The survey doesn't show that 54% supported the burning at all. The title is misleading.

17% supported the burning and 37% said it was "partially justified". "Partially justified" is not supporting the burning. It means they're also partly against it. Newsweek has taken "partially justified" as "fully justified". Nonsense. You'd need to find out what the questions asked were and what the other response options were.

You could equally add the "partially justified" vote to the "unjustified" one to get the opposite result.
The exact framing of the question is important here. This one gave just three options, so the middle one is essentially the 'neutral' position. So you're right. I think the more useful way to sum up that data is to say that more people strongly oppose the burning than strongly support it, but that those strongly opposing it are still in a minority, which in itself is noteworthy, I would have thought, given the extreme nature of the action.

Doesn't make a very good headline, though.

I too wish people would check their Twitter posts a bit more carefully before bunging them straight on here.
It's going to be so easy for team Trump to debunk so many of these videos, and it's going to lead to a cry wolf situation. The people making this shit up are helping nobody but the people they think they're hurting.

You're allowed to do paid work whilst on furlough, just not for the original company. Anarchist corporations are known to try get around this by setting up separate shell companies.

Have they started calling this the “American Spring” yet? Might wind a few people up if that trended.

If the point of sharing a twitter post is to read the full thread it might be worth saying so in your post. I mean, I still won't click through (because I'm idle and hate Twitter), but at least people will know it's not about the face value of the OP

I don't think I've seen Twitter dominate a news event so much as this one, not on here. Which is leading to seeing some really powerful video - and an awful lot of fake shit, often repeated again and again. I too wish people would check their Twitter posts a bit more carefully before bunging them straight on here.
and at least checking the last two or three pages of a thread to see whats been posted, here and on covid its been getting pretty ridiculous at times

I think posters saying something, anything about the tweet they've just posted in the thread would be a good start

Hope you’re not including me in that, have always been easily fooled me.
It’s worth a different thread though imo (though not going to do it just now) the way that wild internet stuff has been an integral part of this whole event as it unfolds, the intentional deceptions & the conspiracism even the way that video spread sparking the initial outrage and all. That the whitehouse official account tweeted a mad lie about bricks today is just part of a bigger thing.
