She is 5. I have a selection on the torrent now. Robot's, Ice Age 3, Madagascar 2, Up and Kung Fu Panda.

I shall stick that lot on DVD and send them over she should like them. Do you know what her favorite program is? Futurama!!! Brilliant she's her daddies girl. Proud of that

I agree that sitting with them and talking about what's going on helps and stops their faces from glazing over. I said I would never let my daughter watch TV until she was three but I caved.
I can of course only speak about my own daughter who is 2.5 - she seems to get films more than I would have expected so a five year old should be way ahead.
We tend to stick to Japanese films because she is bilingual and doesn't get as much opportunity to flex her Japanese as she does her english (being in the uk and all).

Of Ghibli (we have seen them all many times) she asks for multiple repeats of Kiki, Ponyo and Neko no Ongaishi the most. She talks about Totoro a lot but can never really be arsed to watch it. Strangely she also loves 'short short', a compilation of ghibli written / animated ads and oddities.

Ponyo is the current favorate. Last year I learnt kiki off by heart, now Ponyo is going that way and the magic is fading.

The iron giant is amazing.
There is a dvd of teh stage production of the gruffalo, it's flipping fantastic.
Send her some charlie brown. I make my boy sit and watch charlie brown with me and tell him that they don't make them like they used to. Send her programs you liked when you were little

It's nothing to do with whisper of the heart. It's a good one for the kids.

A comic book writer was asked to come up with a full story for the Baron who appeared as a story within the story of Wisper of the Heart (mimi o sumasuba - listen very carefully with your ears)

How To Train Your Dragon, Bolt and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs are all great fun. Also really enjoyed the Spiderwick Chronicles, although it might be a bit too scary for very little ones.

Oh and we have a DVD of The Cat in the Hat. Not the recent film with Mike Meyers but an older version which is charming and lovely and has wonderful songs. This version
It's only half an hour or so long so it's perfect for watching when you've got a rainy hour to fill

At that age they'll watch just about anyhting.

If your watching with her you cant really go wrong with Pixar - the toy stories and nemo are the best.

Bolt is good. Ice Age is meh. Shrek is smug and smartarse if you like that kind of thing.

Or films you liked as a kid (didn't you ever watch disney? Jungle Book, 101 dalmations - v good)

Or watership down if you want to make her cry.

You pretty much spoilt for choice tbh.
