I became a muslim last night

The OP makes me want to vomit, the gutless cunt, well I presume he is either a gutless muppet who thinks it's fine to buy into any old shite for the sake of family convenience.

Seriously finding faith in a religion out of convenience is disgusting on so many levels, to yourself, to atheists and believers, it essentially makes you scum to everyone as you've displayed a lack of conviction in everything and will just go with the wind.

militant motherfucker

:):D:cool: at all posts

I am going to gradually get an understanding of islam. i am going to do some of the things now and then - such as going to the mosque, learning prayers, reading up about it, low level fasting (!). I'm going to take the things from it that will be good for me.

i already rarely eat pork cos i live with my family. as far as booze goes, i'm cutting down anyway after an award-winning booze career, so although i will still have a few, it won't be in anyone's face, as it were.

But the main thing, philosophically, is that to be able to be with my family, i have made small gesture, which although a bit of a stab in the dark, might be quite interesting

oh yeah and you know all that other fine stuff universal to the judeo christian isalmic tradition, like sexism, homophobia, irrational cultural practices and the general reactionary bullshit that it all is, is that all just fine, cos 'parts of it are a good lifestyle'?

I mean do you even believe in a interventionist god ffs?

What if you were married to a Muslim woman, had Muslim children and lived in a Muslim country? There are all sorts of legal implications if you don't convert, to say nothing of legal changes that may happen in the future.

in what has turned out to be an incredible slice (;)) of luck, i was circ'd when i was 11 because my foreskin was fucked. altho it was one of most painful things ever (i had it re-sewn up 2 weeks later after it burst after getting in a fight at school), now i know it was some sort of cock-related destiny

:)

It looks like everything is lining up perfectly for you.

I wouldn't marry her then and the kids would be brought up with religion over my corpse.

Religion is simply a way of teaching morals.

Why are you so threatened by religion?

It so isn't just a nice way of teaching morals. It's a form of MASS control. Do "this" and you will "BURN FOREVER IN HELL" that's not moral. That's just plain fucked up.

You do not need a book to teach you the differrence between right and or wrong. if you do, then you got problems.

Why not I say. All religions are a fucking load of nonsense but if you're living with a bunch of people who're into it you might as well join in. Reminds me of when I moved into a flat full of football fans years ago. I was converted by the time I left despite displaying no interest prior to that. Still love it ;)

The basic tenets of Islam are sound anyway. My main problem with religion is that those core beliefs should be obvious to any human being with a brain so why do people need to be told by some dude in a robe?

Have you got yerself a koran yet?

It's got moses in it. You may remember him from such tales as 'the plagues of egypt' and 'parting the red sea'

Not sure if his lesser known brother Aaron is in it. He was always the Paul Ross to Moses' Jonathon Ross.

I am literally as atheist as they come and it doesn't disgust me in the slightest. Converting for the sake of convenience is pretty atheistic after all.

Why are you so threatened by religion?

Well, having been in two overtly religious wars myself and read a lot of history, I do feel that religion is a threat.

But, outside that, it fucks me off that people with skulls full of brain actually fall for this monstrous shit.

You don't need religion to be moral, you don't need religion to teach morals.

Using it to teach morals is a foolish move anyway, because it relies on threats and intimidation to make you do the right thing, it excludes and condemns, arbitrarily, huge swathes of the world...

Look at Christianity ffs. God the Father? He so loved the world that he sent his son to be crucified?

What sort of twisted up shite is that? I'm a father. If my son was needed to save the world from sin - which, by the way, Jesus seems to have failed dismally at - well the world would remain unsaved. He's not mine to give away and it's my job to look after him, not have him tortured to death.

So, christians are meant to venerate as a loving father figure someone who volunteers his own child to be brutally slain. Nice start to moral teaching.

I haven't looked at the other religions much because they too must be bollocks (starting as they do from the assumption that there is a god).

Just stop being so bloody wishy washy about religion

'good way to teach morals' my arse.

Fucks sake. You'd be better off with Noddy.

You seem to take religion far more seriously than most nominal believers do, really.

I don't think you've quite got the hang of this theology lark.

Fucking yes. Spot on in every word of this post.

Why would I waste my time? I see the results of religion all around me.

You can fritter your intellect away on ultimately pointless Iron Age nonsense if you like.

Much better ways of engaging with people than through malignant fictions.

I think there's more to it than that. It's an organised way of profiting from people's beliefs.

If I was in a position of having to convert, I would be able to do it based on the concept that all religions are basically the same. They can all be boiled down to "be nice". How the being nice is applied is up to that religion.

If I was to use any other definition of religion, I would not be able to go through with the conversion.

erm - my comments were based on the discussion about converting. I'm not about to get dragged into some rubbish debate over the evils/goods of religion.
