Honda and Nissan merger to create global car giant

The two want to strengthen their offerings in the face of Chinese competition in the electric vehicle sector.

Honda and Nissan plan to merge as the two Japanese firms seek to fight back against competition from the Chinese car industry.

The integration would create one of the world's biggest car producers alongside Toyota, Volkswagen, General Motors and Ford.

Years ago I had a 1.5 Datsun Stanza, it was the best car I had had at the time. There is / was a Honda factory at Swindon which is closing or has closed. Never had a Honda. Looks like they both have their battles at home against the Chinese car industry now.

And they are coming.
There are quite a lot of Chinese MG branded cars round here now and there is a dealership.

Honda shut down their factory in Swindon a few years ago so will be interesting to see what that means for the Nissan plant in Sunderland

It'd be Honsan or Nida or similar, as it's a romanisation of two character names. This is the important bit.

I have seen quite a few BYDs around here and the odd Omoda. They might be a touch green but I doubt they are very ethical.

I am not sure I would recognise a BYD or Omoda ..
