Highlander's on tonight on ITV4

If I were to be pretentious, which I will be in a minute, Highlander represents the tropes of humankinds desire for longevity an historical relevance but also mocks it at the same time. Connor Mcloed is not the everyman we want to be but Ramirez surely is.

Don't fucking dear god me, oh film lord. Either the decapitation of those who stand in the way of apotheosis is a metaphor for the cynical recyclical nature of capitalism or it isn't.

Jesus wept...you've been reading too much Sight & Sound my friend...

Highlander is one of my favourite films, love its simplicty and crazy campness Freddy's version of New York New York is the best one i've heard and the instrumental of Who wants to live forever is beautiful, though i'm biased being a Queen fan, which is why i watched the film in the first place.
However i wish that somehow i could scrape the memory of the sequels from my mind ,they are wrong.

Was it Highlander 2 that started the whole 'There was no such film' joke? Because that's another black mark against it.

Like the original Star Wars, Highlander doesn't translate well to the small screen IMO. You need to see it in the cinema on a really big screen.

saying that if your under 30 years of ages its almost biologically impossible for you to have seen it in the cinema

Highlander blew me away when I was a kid, seeing it at the cinema... and it was this film more than any other that taught me to cope with the bitter disappointments that life can deal us; Barry Norman (remember that prick?) said in his film review programme that if you liked Highlander than you would like Highlander 2 as well...

Do you think the title of the Queen song Who Wants To Live Forever? was a conscious lift from Flash Gordon?

For some reason I had always thought "Who wants to live forever" was about Freddie Mercury having AIDS.

Caught a bit of it last night, it really is quite poor!

Still, turns out Connor is from Glenfinnan, and some of the film (particularly on the lake, when Connor 'drowns') was shot there, so when I go in March I'll be prancing around declaring "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!" :D
