Jack of the Green. there's a drunken procession through the old town up to the castle, where the drinking continues. Starts at dawn, although I've never made the start. Lots of people dressed as trees.

Bikers also descend on the town, but they're not part of the jack of the green. They sit on the beach eating fish and chips and look at each other's bikes.

When the weather's kind, it's a fantastic day. Rather lawless, and excellent fun. :)

if only there for one days whens the best bit to get involved in? i have somewhere to stay in hastings and would be very up for this...

Oh, the Monday. That's the day of the procession and the bikers. 20,000 bikers go there if the weather's good - all kinds of weird things turn up.

Go for the Monday.

It's the best day of the year in Hastings. No question.

I've been the last 3 years and really enjoyed it. LBJ is right, the Monday is definitely the day to go.

See you there?

with mayday bells on! im going to give my hastings friends a shout and see if they can put me up on the sunday night...
will keep you posted maggot

i get the feeling there isnt really any music connected to this...whats a good club/bar night spot in Hastings? - id imagine theres things going on just as its mayday weekend....

do you live in hastings lbj?

Used to. I think they have a website if you want to find out what else is going on. On the Monday, you can just follow the crowds - no planning necessary - but if you're there Sunday evening, there's sure to be stuff going on.

In terms of clubs and music venues, Hastings doesn't have loads. If you're there the Sunday evening, The Rooms in St Leonards (opposite Warrior Square station) sometimes has really interesting music on. Not always - sometimes it's a bit ropey - but on Mayday weekend, I would think that they'd have something good. Vegan food too - I think that's good for you?

Best pubs are in the old town.

Bugger. Hope they're still there. They are/were a shoestring operation, run by, well, hippies. They were still there two years ago...

story of my life these days ;)

can you remember where? The Crypt? West Exit is in where The Crypt was...
Can't remember, sorry. We stumbled on it by accident. The bouncer even asked if we were sure we knew what it was. :D Clearly hadn't been to many dirty techno squat parties.

But yes, the Crypt rings a bell. I may or may not have been there. :hmm:

well this is very much on - might even be down from friday > monday - definitley there by sunday tho
we're due some nice weather

The lead green drummer in the 1st of Ed's pics is my mum's ex-fella. Think he's pretty central to lots of things like Jack in the Green and some of the folk festival stuff they've been trying to do in Hastings. Runs the Stag Pub I believe.

Kind of wish we'd not fallen out of touch, he's a very interesting guy...
