*lightbulb moment* Red long sleeved top, head and body swathed in several thick layers of red and white netting, thick white or blue pyjama cord left dangling - used tampon.
Edited to add: I've just grossed VP out with the outline of that costume idea. Maybe next year...
Head swathed in netting makes it very tricky to have a drink or a smoke or to eat. I have learned this.
