Great Films From 2010-2020

Griff

Hardly posting anymore
Films from the '80s were talked about being crap today and the thread chucked up a million great films.

How many great films have there been in the years 2010-2020?

Great films?

Not pretending these are all bona fide classics but I did enjoy the following:

Animal Kingdom (2010)
Four Lions (2010)
The Guard (2011)
Wild Bill (2011)
Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)
Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (2013)
We Are the Best! (2013)
Gone Girl (2014)
Pride (2014)
Everybody Wants Some!! (2016)
The Nice Guys (2016)
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)
The Death of Stalin (2017)
Revenge (2017)
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
Get Out (2017)
Black '47 (2018)

Hmm. The films I watched in the 2010s might say something about my life during the decade...

Tangled (2010)
How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Frozen (2013)
Big Hero 6 (2014)
The Lego Movie (2014)
Inside Out (2015)
Pokemon: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages (2015)
Zootopia (2016)
Moana (2016)
Finding Dory (2016)
Pokemon: I Choose You (2017)
Coco (2017)
Incredibles 2 (2018)
Pokemon: The Power of Us (2018)
A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2019)

(I enjoyed all of these)

Ones I've seen and enjoyed (and remembered):
Amy, The Death of Stalin, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gravity, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, Stan & Ollie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Toy Stories 3&4, True Grit, What We Do in the Shadows, Under the Skin, Attack the Block, Source Code, Super 8, Dredd, World War Z, Interstellar, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Deadpool, Four Lions, Trollhunter, The Cabin in the Woods, Color Out of Space, It 1&2,

Those I consider to be the cream of the bunch:
Parasite, Hell or Highwater, Cloud Atlas, Chappie, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, Midsommar,

Not helped by the fact that I find it really hard to source recent movies, as I no longer have a DVD player and you've got to know where its streaming these days, if you don't want to pirate it.

I was going to say Four Lions must be older, but looks it was 2010, so I suppose it qualifies.

Hated World War Z as it was such a disapointment after reading the book.

Had Parasite on my Sky planner for ages and haven't got around to watching it yet.

Loved Dredd and always watch it if it's on Film 4.

Crazy Rich Asians
Fences
Parasite
Get Out
Arrival
Spotlight
Wind River
Whiplash
We need to talk about Kevin
Under the skin
3 billboards
Manchester by the sea
Hidden Figures

Would never have thought to include four lions, thought it was much older.

Have heard polarising reactions to Green Book, is it worth watching?

I liked it. I think films that deal with overcoming racism are a hard sell, and can sometimes have a schmaltzy feeling. Green Book, however, is a convergence of several themes on race, class, and sexual orientation; furthermore, I was convinced by the friendship of the two men, it didn't feel forced.

I submit it was the best decade ever for horror.

Under the Skin
Troll Hunter
Kill List
Sightseers
A Field in England
Unfriended
Creep I&II
Little Joe
The Wailing
The Witch
The Lighthouse
The Babadook
Get Out

Crimson Peak
Under the Shadow

The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Ravenous
Cargo
The Girl With All the Gifts

Paddington and Paddington II

Both fantastic The second being, officially, the greatest film ever made.

Lots of Great Films listed but I would add

Aquaman
Attack The Block
Beauty and The Beast
Cinderella
Edge of Tomorrow
Jumanji The Next Level
Maleficient
Ready Player One
The Adjustment Bureau
The Forbidden Kingdom

Thor Ragnarok, Ant Man and Deadpool are the best but all of the Marvel films of that decade are pretty good (Eternals in 2021 is when the rot set in)

I might have overdone it... I've now done ‘underrated/good/great’ lists for the 00s (234), 10s (369) and 20s (53), and that came to 656 films 🤦‍♀️

So obviously I've put them all into a spreadsheet, and am plodding through adding in C20 stuff. And then realising I might as well just do a spreadsheet of all films I've seen, and rating them 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
