Good camp sites on Kent coast?

We're visiting Mrs R's parents one weekend soon and she has suggested we camp somewhere on the Kent coast with a sandy beach.

So far the following have been mooted, but coming from far away Sussex I have no idea what these Kentish type places are like:

Margate, Ramsgate, Birchington, Westgate, Broadstair, Thanet.

Any camp site recommendations?

We do a fair bit of camping in Kent/Sussex and I've looked several times for coastal campsites. It's quite hard as the majority of coastal campsites are large caravan park type places. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ is really helpful for looking. I'll be watching this thread too for any recommendations. I think there are a few Dover way. The places we tend to go are inland.

Wondered about that, ta. Anywhere really good inland and not too far from the sea?

Forgewood in Sussex is great and they have another site near Faversham, so at the mo I think that might be top of the list.

They've got quite a few in fact... Badgell's Wood is very close.

Manor Court Farm is absolutely lovely... more Sussex though - so not so close. We've stayed at lots further down in Sussex about 20 mins drive from the sea (and near the National Cider Collection... ;)). Can give you a list if you like.

More interested in Kent than Sussex tbh as I grew up in Sussex and we'll be near Whitstable. Cheers though :)

I'll have a look at Badgell's Wood, thanks.

Is this something trashpony might be able to help with?

:)

3 Chimneys is supposed to be nice but it's inland (near Manston) and in the middle of nowhere although only a short drive to the beaches around here. There's a site in Ramsgate which I recommended to someone else recently - I've not been there but I've heard good things. It's called Nethercourt iirc.

If you're not coming by car, Nethercourt's probably your best bet as it's nearer stuff although the Chimneys one is like being in the middle of Norfolk - fields as far as you can see, then the sea and a massive fuck off sky :)

The chimneys one is near Quex Park which has a maize maze and a fab museum called the Powell-Cotton which is named after a victorian explorer who collected loads of animals and stuffed them. They are arranged in fabulous tableaux and it's one of our favourite places to visit (the foal calls it the dead animal museum). There's a bit of a bizarre exhibition on at the Turner too plus the museum of monstrosities in Margate

Although perhaps you're after something more tasteful

fair enough... good to see trashpony came up with some good suggestions - v. useful for me too as I have family in Ramsgate (as well as a lovely friend in Broadstairs.. ;)) ...

although I looked up 3 chimneys and they seem to have lost a chimney... :D
In my head, it's three. Two seems rather prosaic

I drove past Nethercourt today and it is within walking distance of the Belle Vue which is a pub with the best outside garden around here - it's a patio right on the cliff edge, looking over Pegwell Bay. So I'd go there if I were you
